WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Marauders #8 by Gerry Duggan, Stefano Caselli, Edgar Delgado, VC's Cory Petit and Tom Muller, on sale now.

Mutants are people born with special abilities, which can manifest as superpowers or physical differences. Their powers can range from the mundane to the extraordinary, like seeing through walls or lifting heavy objects. Mutants that willingly choose to use their special traits for good are known as the X-Men.

Of course, possessing powerful superhero abilities can come in handy, and the cream of the crop are classified as Omega-level mutants. Though not all of Marvel's Omega-level mutants have been members of the X-Men in the past, their new status quo lumps the majority of the Omegas with the X-Men on the mutant nation of Krakoa.

House of X #1 revealed an updated list of Omega-level mutants, with 10 of the 14 fully aligned with the X-Men. Names like Magneto, Jean Grey and Legion are expected, but one that typically comes as a surprise to fans is Bobby Drake, aka Iceman. As his code name indicates, Iceman has ice manipulation powers, but his Omega power is distinctly classified as "temperature manipulation."

X-Men comics have previously teased just how powerful Iceman truly is, with the first instance occurring when Emma Frost took over his body. Fans have seen Iceman create animated ice drones that he can mentally control, along with other various feats of strength. However, a traumatic event in Marauders #8 reveals Iceman may be the biggest wild card of all the Omega-level mutants.

Iceman Unleashed

Kate (formerly Kitty) Pryde is the leader of the Marauders, and a recent addition to the Hellfire Trading Company's Inner Circle. Emma Frost recruited Kate to be the Inner Circle's Red Queen, with Bishop serving as the Red Bishop. Emma's power-play greatly upset the Black King, Sebastian Shaw, which caused him to set a trap for Kate. She ultimately drowned after being tied up, with the Marauders unaware of what transpired.

Bishop discovers Kate's body in Marauders #8 and contacts Emma, who in turn assembles the Marauders to rescue the pair from a salvage ship outside of Madripoor. The backup arrives just as Bishop is about to be attacked by the ship's crew, and Iceman makes a dramatic entrance with a display of his Omega powers.

The crew members never stood a chance against a pissed off Iceman. He attacks the villains before they even know what hits them by first rapidly dropping the temperature inside the ship. The crew's gear and the walls of the ship begin to ice over. But the most surprising thing happens to the sergeant of the group. While everyone is freezing, the sergeant frantically begins to tear his clothes off as he complains he's burning up. What this means is Iceman must be manipulating the molecules inside his body, causing his body temperature to skyrocket.

Next, body parts start to freeze over and break off the crew's bodies. Not only do trigger fingers snap off, but Iceman completely removes an arm after Bishop reminds him of the "Kill No Human" Krakoan law. After all, dismembering an enemy doesn't fall into the category of killing. Iceman's final gift before he teleports away with Bishop is frostbite, a constant reminder to never take up arms against the X-Men again. The teleportation may have been another manifestation of Iceman's Omega-level abilities, too, as he can project himself -- and others -- through the moisture in the air.

Iceman and Captain Kate Pryde used to be in a relationship, so he is understandably upset that someone he cares for deeply was murdered. His fellow Omega-level mutant, Storm, also reacts to Kate's death when she confronts Emma Frost, though they end their conversation with a hug.

Bobby Drake is known for being the class clown of the X-Men, with his ability to make light of high-pressure situations. However, seeing him let loose in Marauders serves as a reminder that he should not be underestimated. Iceman wasn't randomly selected to be on the X-Men's Omega-level mutant list. When it's time to take things seriously, he may truly be the biggest wild card in the elite group.
