Cyclops Chronicles: The Story of Scott Summers, a fan-made web series centering on the X-Men's Cyclops, is coming to the internet this spring.

Created by and starring filmmaker and comics fan Keith Sutliff (The Mason BrothersThe Refuge), a teaser trailer for the upcoming unofficial, unauthorized series has been released as well ahead of the series' premiere in April. The trailer features Sutliff as Scott Summers, driving a DeLorean through an empty desert. Cyclops Chronicles will be the first large-scale, live-action project to fully explore the background of the Marvel Comics character. It will premiere for free on YouTube and Vimeo in mid-April.

Scott Summers/Cyclops made his Marvel Comics debut in 1963's X-Men #1 by artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee and is considered to be the first X-Man. He was initially portrayed by James Marsden in the original X-Men trilogy, though younger versions of the character have been played by Tim Pocock in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and by Tye Sheridan in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix in 2019 and Deadpool 2 in 2018. Sutliff referred to comics like Cyclops Origins, X-Factor, and Uncanny X-Men for his research in writing, directing and starring in the making of the episodic fan series. In a recent interview with CBR, Sutliff explained why he wanted to focus on the character Scott Sumers in the first place.

"If you watch the Fox movies, Wolverine is the big alpha male of the group," Sutliff said. "He's almost running the show. I read a lot of people complaining that 'Cyclops doesn't get enough love.' So me and my producing partner thought, 'You know what? They're right.' There have been other Fox origin movies, like Wolverine, and there are fan-based projects about Wolverine and Gambit, but there aren't any about Cyclops at all. He's the leader of the X-Men. So, that's how this all came about -- just a ton of research. I'm drawing from that and putting my own twist on the character."

Sutliff also stated that there will "absolutely" be other Marvel heroes "sprinkled throughout the series," even a possible appearance from Magneto, though it will center mainly on Cyclops and his backstory. "We really want to focus on Scott's backstory and his story in general, and chronicle different events in his life," he said. "We just want to put entertainment out for people who wanted this -- X-Men fans and Cyclops fans -- as a treat for them."

Cyclops Chronicles: The Story of Scott Summers does not yet have a specific release date, but will premiere on YouTube and Vimeo in mid-April 2022.
