It’s unfair to say that certain members of the X-Men might be more important than others since all of them combined make the faction what it is. However, this debate is natural to come up considering how different each character is. Then again, when it comes to characters who are relatively similar to one another this debate gets even more heated up.

That’s the case with Beast and Wolverine, who are considered to be around the same type of mutant. Here, we’re not stressing their powers as much as their personalities and how well they gel with the team, although special abilities still have been considered. That said, let’s see what each of these characters’ best qualities are.

10 Beast: He Can Be A Liaison Between Humans And Mutants

After having initially struggled with his mutation, and even undergoing a secondary mutation as well, Beast has been shown taking an active part in harmonizing the relationship between humans and mutants. His calm demeanor has allowed him to be someone approachable.

Along with that, Beast’s very mutant appearance means his interactions with humans make him the ideal poster boy for peace since when people treat Beast in a civil manner it sends a message that every mutant should be treated the same way. A figure like this is especially important to the X-Men to reach out to others.

9 Wolverine: He Has Closer Relationships With The X-Men

Both of these characters have relationships that run deep among the teammates; Wolverine, though, beats Beast in this regard. The thing about Wolverine is that when he chooses to be close to someone, he dives right in and becomes a father figure.

We’ve seen him be this way across various media to characters like Rogue and Nightcrawler, while he’s also had a brotherly relationship with others such as Storm or Professor X. Then, there’s his dynamic with Cyclops and Jean. Beast just doesn’t have as many moments with the X-Men as Wolverine does.

8 Beast: He Actually Uses His Smarts

How many times have we seen Wolverine throw logic out the window and mess up a plan? No matter how cool he might look when he unleashes his rage, Wolverine has been a liability on many occasions for being a hothead.

On the other end we have Beast, who has a quieter disposition and thinks before he acts. While he’s no master tactician, Beast still doesn’t jump into a fight without a plan in play. He draws from his intellectual skills to know when or who to attack without ruining the fight for the rest of the team.

7 Wolverine: He Has The Killer Instinct When Required

Marvel characters are generally kept to a code where they are reluctant to kill and cause trauma to their conscience, but the fact of the matter is that tough times call for tough decisions. The reason why Wolverine has been such a breakout character is because he doesn’t shy away from killing.

For the most part, Wolverine kills only those who deserve it, which we have to agree with as those antagonists would otherwise just go back to their villainous ways. Beast has also been in a similar position before, but these are few and far between as he prefers to avoid taking lives.

6 Beast: He's Open To New Ideas And Being Delegated To

It’s a whole lot easier to get Beast on board for a job than it is with Wolverine, who will almost every time object with the plan. At some point, we have to imagine this must get very frustrating to be challenged on almost every occasion - Cyclops and Professor X know this all too well.

Beast only ever raises his voice when he genuinely feels there’s a problem with what the X-Men are planning, while under usual circumstances he’s very happy to take orders and conform with the Professor’s or any other leader’s plans.

5 Wolverine: He Has Leadership Quality

The flip side to Wolverine’s constant issues with authority is that he manages to make himself out to be a leader. While he’s more content to be on his own, Wolverine has displayed on many occasions that he’s more than up to the job of handling the X-Men.

It’s probably because his radical style of thinking is hard to predict since it’s such a departure from the techniques adopted by Professor X. And Wolverine’s aggressive leadership sure has racked up a fair amount of wins. Beast is more in line with the usual X-Men formula, which makes him more of a follower than a leader.

4 Beast: He's Knowledgeable In A Variety Of Things

It always helps to have a genius on your team, who also has extensive knowledge on the happenings around the world and facts about multiple things. Beast is usually the go-to guy to have an intellectual or even philosophical conversation with.

Wolverine does relate very well to the troubles of a person, but that doesn’t help nearly as much as Beast who can offer his wide range of knowledge which includes medicine, technology, engineering, art, linguistics, and a slew of others. On occasion, Beast has been seen applying medical knowledge to help out teammates in distress.

3 Wolverine: He Has More World Experience

Wolverine has been all around the world during his lifetime, during which he’s also made a whole lot of friends and allies. He seems to know at least one person from just about every country, which comes in handy during situations where the X-Men have to lay low.

He’s been able to be a great judge of character toward shifty individuals as his experience has taught him how to differentiate between who to trust and who to brand an enemy. While Beast has knowledge of history, Wolverine has lived out the pages of the same history. This kind of experience makes Wolverine perhaps more valuable than Professor X in the matters of the world.

2 Beast: He Doesn't Jump To Conclusions

Building on from a point made above, another valuable trait of Beast has been his willingness to provide the benefit of the doubt. We’ve seen countless of occasions where certain members of the X-Men have committed faults beyond their control, and Beast has been one of the few to provide forgiveness along with understanding.

Wolverine’s innate pessimism has led to him mainly handing leeway only to a select bunch of people while branding someone he’s not very familiar with to be guilty of what he believes them to be. With Beast’s capacity for empathy, the X-Men are better suited to create a culture of safe space for the students.

1 Wolverine: His Immortality And Invulnerability

Since Beast and Wolverine have similar savage mannerisms there’s not much to separate them as fighters; that is until Wolverine’s physiology comes into play. Being immortal has led to Wolverine being a major player in the X-Men’s plans where all-out war situations break out.

Beast, despite having extreme durability, just can’t match to Wolverine’s adamantium and invulnerability. It makes sense to avoid something potentially fatal happening to Beast by sending in Wolverine who is practically guaranteed to survive. We’re talking about a guy who took an atomic bomb hit and shrugged it off like it was nothing!
