Xerxes, The Wolverine, Men in Black III: Feb 17th Comic Reel

According to Entertainment Weekly, Guy Ritchie will not be taking over the project despite an earlier report at the Vulture. A Warner Bros spokesperson tells them it was just “an erroneous rumor.” The article notes Snyder’s commitment to “Superman” means “Xerxes” will sit in development until at least 2012.

Release date: TBA

Darren Aronofsky tells Popcorn Biz (via Superhero Hype) a little bit more about the film. Reiterating that it is not a sequel, he explains, “I think there’s something to be done in that world that hasn’t been done yet.” He also offered his go-to quip when talking about the film, “I’m also excited to do something that everyone wants to make, as opposed to being the only person that wants to make the film at the beginning.”

Release date: 2012?

Despite production delays, Alice Eve has joined the cast, according to Deadline. She’s set to play the 1969 version of Emma Thompson’s character. According to the article she is “hired as secretary for the Agency in 1969. While it appears she was given the job because of her looks, Olivia is actually whip smart.” In the present day portions of the film, Olivia — as played by Thompson — is the agency director.

Release date: May 25th, 2012

While not a scoop, our pals at Spinoff Online reported on an interesting case of rumor debunking over at Nolan Fans featuring a fake press release and an obviously bad email address. Enjoy!

Release date: July 20th, 2012

Matthew Vaughn tells Deadline he has a big Hollywood Studio interested in his adaptation of “The Golden Age.” No, not the James Robinson Elseworlds story that slowly made its way into DCU continuity (via his excellent “Starman” series), but a new project with the same title. “It’s based on the yet-to-be-published comic book written by Brit TV chat show host Jonathan Ross, who’s a huge comics buff,” writes Deadline’s Tim Adler. Instead of recounting the last days of the JSA, this book is about “a retirement home where superheroes end up.”

Release date: TBA

Bleeding Cool reports the film wrapped production earlier than expected and has a photo of star Karl Urban in a hot tub to prove it:

Release date: TBA

January Jones tells MTV News about her psychic encounter with James McAvoy:

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

THOR has a brief interview with Jose Fernandez of IronHead Studios. They produced the “hard elements” seen in the film. “The biggest challenge, I think, was trying to have the stunt armor replicate the hero armor, as the stunt armor is cast out of a flexible urethane that is difficult to paint,” he says. “Hero armor” is the real deal metal pieces the actors wear in certain shots.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011

As we reported here at CBR, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a veteran of both comics and the theater, has been approached to re-write the show’s book. According to the article, “Aguirre-Sacasa will be reworking the original book by show director Julie Taymor and Glen Berger while the songs by U2’s The Edge and Bono will remain.” I guess the harsh reviews got to them.

Opens: March 15th, 2011 … maybe

Actor James Denton tells The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex about taking on the title role in the direct-to-video release. “One of the great things that I read about Superman came from Grant Morrison when he said that the bumbling Clark Kent was a facade, and that Superman is also facade,” he answered when asked about his approach to the character. “That the real Clark Kent, the guy that was raised by Ma and Pa Kent in Smallville, was very strong, very confident and knew how to drive a tractor – that guy was the real guy. And that helped me ’cause I thought ‘If this feels a little monotone or controlled, that’s OK, because Superman is not the real Clark Kent either.'”

Release date: February 22nd, 2011

Spinoff Online reports Adrianne Palicki is your new Wonder Woman! Who is she? According to the article, “Palicki, who played Tyra Collette on the first three seasons of that acclaimed NBC series [‘Friday Night Lights’], is no stranger to superhero adaptations: She was the evil Siren in the ill-fated ‘Aquaman’ pilot. She also portrayed Sam Winchester’s doomed girlfriend in the pilot episode of ‘Supernatural,’ and appeared in Fox’s short-lived drama ‘Lone Star.’ Palicki co-stars in the upcoming remake of ‘Red Dawn.'” She’s also 5’11”. On the show, she’ll play the thoroughly modern Diana Themyscira, a high power executive by day and superhero by night.

Airdate: TBA

TV Guide reports the CW will reair the pilot episode on Friday, April 8th in anticipation of the two-hour series finale.

Airs: Fridays

I received a press release this morning about a new project called “Destroy.” It is the feature debut for director Michael Stephenson, who previously brought us “Best Worst Movie,” a documentary about the phenomenon surrounding “Troll 2,” one of the worst movies ever made. Stephenson also starred in that movie when he was a young boy and grew up embarrassed by it. The irony here, by embracing “Troll 2,” he now has access to funds to make his own film. It sounds like it’ll be fun. Here’s the plot: “Vampires don’t exist, but that doesn’t stop well-intentioned would-be vampire hunter Steve Howard from leaving a trail of blood-splattered wooden stakes across Bavaria. While he thinks he’s saving the world, he and new assistant Elise are mistakenly murdering sweet, innocent old men.” I’d watch that. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of Denny from “The Room” resurfacing as a soft-core director.
