With Star Wars Rebels gearing up for its fourth and final season, it seems that the animated series is finally going to feature the franchise's iconic X-Wings.

The news comes from Rebels co-executive producer Henry Gilroy, who paid a surprise visit to the Star Wars Rebels Fan Panel at Dragon Con in Atlanta, as reported by Star Wars Insider's Bryan Young on Twitter.

Gilroy explained why the fighters hadn't made an appearance in the show yet, saying, "The Rebellion didn't have them yet," and noting that "when we see X-Wings on Rebels, we want it to be special."

Debuting in 2014, Star Wars Rebels is set just before the events of 1977's Star Wars, and focuses the rag-tag crew of the Ghost and the fledgling Rebellion as they rise up against the tightening grip of the Galactic Empire. The series has not only tied up some of the loose threads of its animated predecessor The Clone Wars, reintroducing some fan-favorite characters, it also has served as a link to the original Star Wars trilogy and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
