WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for X-Corp #5, available now from Marvel Comics.

The mutant corner of the Marvel Universe has always been one of its most complex and dangerous. While the establishment of Krakoa as an independent mutant state and the Resurrection Protocols have managed to ease much of the violent tension between mutants, there are still some who insist on staying true to their villainous roots. This is certainly the case with the classic X-Men villains the Fenris Twins, and their actions in X-Corps #5 (by Tini Howard, Alberto Foche, Sunny Gho, Tom Muller, and VC's Clayton Cowles) illustrate why they should be considered eligible for Krakoa's worst punishment.

When X-Corp entered into the telecom industry with their ionospheric bandwidth generator, it was just another reason for their rivals to launch a coordinated strike against the competition. Leading the charge is Andrea and Andreas Von Strucker who have made their way to the generator in order to copy its signature before blowing themselves and the entire facility sky high. If this plan is successful, it would be a devastating blow to X-Corp both literally and figuratively, especially considering the fact that it has been meticulously planned to culminate before Cerebro can create new backups for the mutants inside the headquarters.

By lining things up this way and transmitting the data they gather off site prior to their deaths, the Fenris twins will be able to replicate X-Corp's work for themselves while the heroes' are left completely unaware of what transpired. Of course, all of that hinges on the Von Struckers being resurrected in the first place, and while they might be considered residents of Krakoa, they are not very welcome among the other mutants.

However, it appears that Andrea and Andreas von Strucker have been greatly overvaluing their place in mutant society. Resurrection has been afforded to every citizen of Krakoa thanks to the Five, yet even this hinges on partaking in Krakoan society, or at least adhering to its laws. Ever since their introduction to the Marvel Universe in 1985's Uncanny X-Men #194 (by Chris Claremont and John Romita Jr.), the Von Strucker twins have been nothing but vile, and the advancements that mutants have made in the years since don't seem to have changed that in the slightest. Not only do these two continue to terrorize their own people, but they haven't held back when it comes to humanity either, breaking one of the three laws all citizens of Krakoa are expected to follow that forbids the killing of humans.

Although Fenris sees nothing wrong with killing humans in their endeavors, the Quiet Council of Krakoa has deemed it an unforgivable act. In fact, it's one that Krakoa's government has no problem punishing in the worst possible fashion as seen with the grim fate Sabretooth was subjected to following his trial in 2019's House of X #6 (by Jonathan Hickman and Pepe Larraz). When Sabretooth was completely unrepentant for his crimes upon being offered a chance for redemption, the Quiet Council sentenced him to a waking nightmare by having him swallowed whole by Krakoa, leaving him entirely conscious yet unable to escape his prison. Even though Fenris are quick to boast that they will claim their Krakoan status whenever it suits them, the precedent has already been set that merely being a mutant isn't enough to escape being punished for their crimes.

If there is anyone deserving of the same fate Sabretooth was relegated to, it is without a doubt Andrea and Andreas von Strucker. From their hateful roots to their continued campaigns of carnage against humans and mutants alike, there is nothing about these two that could ever be interpreted as worthy of redemption.

The twins aren't likely to take that opportunity to change even if it was offered, as they have already proven to be happy serving only themselves at the expense of any and everyone else. This certainly isn't the last that time that Fenris will be seen, but if they aren't careful their next appearance may be their last.
