UPDATE: Hayter has clarified that he has no inside information and that he misspoke, believing he had read about a Daredevil reboot elsewhere.

X-Men writer David Hayter recently appeared to confirm that a Daredevil reboot is in the works for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

At MCM London Comic Con, Hayter stated, "You know, they're doing a reboot of Daredevil and Daredevil was always a very important character to me, and I loved the, I loved the first way they did it. But there’s certain things that I, you know that I want to adapt from the Frank Miller run on Daredevil that really meant a lot to me. Um, I yeah, I I mean, that’s that’s really the one."

Hayter is known for co-writing 2000's X-Men and its sequel. As far as his credits go, he has not been involved significantly in the MCU or any Marvel Studios production. Marvel Studios has not officially announced a Daredevil reboot, but there have been rumors of such a project for some time.

No details were provided concerning whether or not this reboot involves former Daredevil star Charlie Cox or if someone else will be cast in the role. There has been widespread speculation that Cox will return as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen in some form through the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home-- a theory that recent images appear to confirm, though it should be noted that there is some dispute regarding the authenticity of these photos.

Over the past year, rumors have circulated, suggesting that the upcoming Spider-Man film, the She-Hulk series for Disney+ or the upcoming Echo series will see Cox reprise his role as Matt Murdock. Rumors surrounding Echo suggest that the show could also serve as the fourth season of the canceled Daredevil series. However, none of these rumors have been confirmed.

It's worth keeping in mind that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to pulling in characters from far beyond the established canon. Spider-Man: No Way Home trailers have already confirmed that Alfred Molina's Doc Ock from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 will return after 17 years, as will Jamie Foxx's Electro and many others. Other than that, Disney+'s WandaVision teased fans with the return of Evan Peters as Quicksilver, though this ultimately proved to be a trick.

Charlie Cox's potential return to the MCU comes atop hopes that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will make an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home as well, each playing an iconic version of Spider-Man. Stars Tom Holland and Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield have both denied the involvement of the other Spider-Man stars, but rumors persist.
