WARNING: The following contains spoilers for X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #1, available now from Marvel.

Despite being an experiment to bring about the ideal mutant nation, Krakoa has increasingly been facing crisis after crisis -- with each one seeming to further fracture the alliances the X-Men have worked so hard to cement. But there's one family unit that's actually proving themselves repeatedly under the recent pressure.

The Wolverine family just proved how effective they are as a unit during the investigation into the Scarlet Witch's death in X-Men: The Trial Of Magneto #1 by Leah Williams, Lucas Werneck, Edgar Delgado, and VC's Clayton Cowles -- which should be a scary reminder to anyone who crosses them what kind of brutality they can expect down the line.

Logan -- aka Wolverine -- spent decades seemingly alone in the world. Even when he was with the X-Men and forged bonds with his fellow mutants, he wasn't sure he had any true members of his family left in the world. But all that has changed in recent years: his long-lost son Daken found his way into his father's life, his young clone Laura became a prominent mutant within the realm of the X-Men and the New Mutants, and Laura's clone Gabby has recently been accepted by the mutant community. Although there have been tensions between them at times -- most prominently with Daken spending many years as a villain before being won over -- they've become a surprisingly close-knit family unit in the era of Krakoa.

They've also gotten the chance to work together, especially now that three of them have major roles within Krakoa's teams: Logan is a prominent field agent for X-Force, Daken has found a place in the investigative branch of X-Factor, and Laura was recently elected to the newly reformed X-Men. All three teams are on hand during the investigation into Scarlet Witch's death during the course of the Hellfire Gala, although X-Factor is nominally in charge of the investigation. This has already led to some conflict between the groups, with Northstar and Prodigy both expressing their annoyance at the interference into their work. However, the Wolverine family has been working surprisingly well despite all of this lingering tension.

As they examine the scene of the crime, Daken takes charge thanks to his enhanced senses. Logan and Laura provide support, while not forcing their own opinions and thoughts onto Daken. They clearly make sure not to step on his toes, and instead, offer ideas that he can confirm or deny. Later, during the capture of Magneto by the groups, the two Wolverines face Magneto head-on -- actually serving as a pretty good distraction so Daken can sneak up behind the Master of Magnetism and deal a pretty heavy blow to his back. The trio are quick to work together, and it's a promising reminder that despite all being skilled on their own, they are particularly capable and dangerous when united against a single threat.

This reminder should also be kept in mind when remembering recent events in New Mutants. Scout has been one of the young mutants exposed to the Shadow King recently, and the most resistant to his mysterious plans. Her interference got her killed by the Shadow King in secret, and now her friends -- fully convinced they can resurrect her on their own and unaware of the Shadow King's actions -- are piloting her body around and causing damage to her relationships with Daken by impersonating her. If and when the Wolverines learn the truth about what happened to her, it's likely they'll turn their impressive skills against them and potentially cause even more strife on the mutant nation.
