When it comes to Marvel superheroes, the X-Men and the Avengers are the pinnacles. Each one is basically the equivalent to the others; it's just one is "for" mutants, and the other is for everyone. However, there has been some overlap between the two teams, with mutants from the X-Men going to the Avengers and mutants from the Avengers – plus a one-time team-up with Spider-Man – becoming X-Men.

Kate Pryde as the Red Queen

Kate Pryde's superhero career began when she was very young. Since then, she's been an X-Man, a founder of Excalibur, trained the time-lost original five X-Men, joined and led the Guardians of the Galaxy, led the Marauders, and joined the Quiet Council. She's a ridiculously skilled and intelligent hero, a master of her phasing powers.

If any X-Men character deserves to be an Avenger, it's her. She's the kind of superhero polymath that does very well on the team. She's known most of the Avengers for years, and they all know how much she can bring to the table.

9 Nightcrawler Would Love Being An Avenger

Nightcrawler bamfing with his sword

The X-Men are only nominally superheroes in many ways, with some members being more about that life than others. Nightcrawler has always been a swashbuckling superhero type, a man who looks like a demon with the soul of the greatest hero imaginable. He loves what he does, which is why he would love to be an Avenger.

Nightcrawler joining the Avengers would show how far he's come. For some reason, he always gets lost in the lurch but has always deserved better than he's gotten, and being an Avenger would demonstrate to the world just how great he is.

Marvel Comics' Polaris flying through metal debris.

Polaris has been on a journey of discovery lately, trying to figure out who she is. But, of course, a perfect way to do that would be to join the Avengers.

Emma Frost from the X-Men

Emma Frost's telepathy makes her a formidable threat to anyone out there. She may not be the most powerful telepath on the planet, but she's easily one of the most experienced and skilled. Unfortunately, she's also utterly amoral regarding the use of her powers, which would make her an exciting mix with the Avengers.

Her ability to transform into diamond gives her the physical power that makes her more than just a mental talent. In addition, her attitude and way of comporting herself would make her an interesting Avenger, and the sheer power she brings to the table would make her quite valuable to the team.

The New Mutants have been very influential over the years, pioneering teen teams in the Marvel Universe and lending two of its alum to the Avengers in the past, Cannonball, and Sunspot. However, if anyone were to lay odds on which original New Mutant was to join the Avengers first, Dani Moonstar would have been at the top of the list.

She's a fierce warrior, her neural arrows making her a long-range threat. Add to that her telepathy and illusion casting, and she brings a lot to the Avengers that they don't already have. On top of that, her past as a Valkyrie means she'd fit right in with Thor.

5 Magik Brings A Lot Of Power To The Table

Magik from the New Mutants admires her sword.

Magik's mystical might has given her a fierce reputation. Illyana Rasputin is downright terrifying at the best of times; her upbringing in Limbo and the power it gave her make her a pragmatic hero. After returning to life, she eventually graduated to the X-Men and took to the big team like a fish to water, which would follow if she joined the Avengers.

Magik's one of the most powerful sorcerers in any dimension, her teleport disks would make her more efficient than any transportation method the Avengers have, and she's a fierce combatant. As a result, she would be perfect for facing the most significant threats the universe has to offer.

Jean Grey's importance to the X-Men can't be understated. She's been with the team since the beginning and, even before that, was a student of Charles Xavier. As a result, she's been honing her powers longer than most of the Avengers have even been putting on costumes, and she has done things that place her at the top of the superhero game.

Jean Grey has long been one of the X-Men's best pure superheroes, so her becoming an Avenger would be perfect. She's the kind of hero who has more than proven that she should be an Avenger, so making her part of the team would definitely be fitting. It would be nice to see her outside her comfort zone for once.

He's easily one of the most powerful people on Earth and has spent all of his adult life as a superhero. He's proven himself more than capable of operating at the highest level, and the Avengers would show the world what he can do.

Iceman is also the premiere queer X-Man, bringing some much-needed representation to the Avengers, a team that has always been way too hetero. Iceman can defeat pretty much any Avenger by himself, as well as most of their villains, and would reach the next level with the Avengers.

1 Cyclops Is The Greatest Mutant Superhero

Cyclops fires an extremely wide optic blast.

Cyclops has had a tough life, but one thing is impossible to deny: he's the greatest mutant superhero. He's the mutant Captain America, the greatest role model for young mutants, and rivals the Star-Spangled Avenger as a leader. He's mastered his powers and is an amazing teacher and strategist. He's the perfect X-Man and would make the ideal Avenger.

In some ways, it's weird to think of Cyclops on the Avengers, but it makes way more sense than it seems. If the Avengers are where the greatest superheroes go, that's where Cyclops belongs. He's the best of the best and would make an excellent Avenger.
