One of Marvel's most prominent young X-Men is Genesis, the clone of one of the team's greatest enemies. While Evan Sabahnuh played a major role in the X-Men's world for a few years, he hasn't shown up yet in Krakoa, where practically all of mutantkind has gathered over the past several months.

Now, we're taking a look back at the history of Genesis, the extremely powerful clone of Apocalypse who could become either a major hero or a deadly threat, and what happened to him before his disappeared.

In 2010, Rick Remender and Jerome Opena assembled Uncanny X-Force to assassinate a young clone of Apocalypse before he could become a threat to the X-Men. While most of the team couldn't kill the young boy, Fantomex seemingly had no such scruples and shot him in the head. Unbeknownst to his allies, Fantomex took the chance to acquire a DNA sample from the boy. Cloning the boy and naming him Evan, Fantomex became his "Uncle Cluster" when he created him in Remender and Esad Ribic's Uncanny X-Force #7.

Using the technology of the World to simulate a simple life of a farmer, Evan essentially grew up in a modified version of the Kent household that raised Superman in the DC Universe. The enhanced speed of time in the World meant that Evan quickly aged into adolescence. Soon, Fantomex called on him to help defeat Warren Worthington when he fully became the Dark Angel.

Exposed to the real world for the first time, Evan was enrolled in the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning and became aware of what his connection to Apocalypse could mean. Many students judged him for his obvious connection to the villain, and a future seen by Deathlok saw Evan fully embracing his dark side of him and becoming one of the greatest X-Men enemies ever.

Working with the likes of Shadow King and Sabertooth, Daken tried to push Evan to accept his darker side and actually try to kill someone. Evan resisted these dark lessons, and ended up even creating a deep bond with Deadpool, who took the opportunity to protect Evan in an attempt for his failure to save the original clone of Apocalypse.

After Evan spent a few years as a student at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning and with a few young X-Men teams, the events of AXIS forced Evan to become a darker figure. Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch's magic responded in an unexpected way, flipping the morality of the heroes and villains present. this included Evan and the X-Men. Evan evolved into a new form much like the original Apocalypse, with the X-Men as his deadly followers. However, Zenpool, the at-peace inverted Deadpool, was able to break through to Evan and help reverse the effects of the spell.

Genesis X-Men

Evan even found himself finally confronted with Apocalypse himself, albeit in two unexpected ways. Working with the time-displaced Beast to find a time-machine, Evan fought alongside a young En Sabah Nur and befriended him, but was unable to stop the cycle of violence that would eventually instill Apocalypse with his cold fury and appreciation for violence.

The Age of X-Man crossover then sent many of the X-Men into a false reality created by X-Man, where mutants lived in peace and unity. In this world, Evan was raised by Murshid En Sabah Nur, and even worked with him as a part of the X-Tracts: a group of revolutionaries who oppose X-Man's rule. Evan wanted to be a hero and fought alongside the X-Tracts against Omega Red. However, Evan was seemingly mortally wounded in the battle and died.

Despite Apocalypse claiming he'd actually faked the death of his son, Evan has not actually appeared with the rest of the X-Men in the Dawn of X era. He hasn't shown up on Krakoa yet, even though his DNA would make it potentially very easy to resurrect him. Even just using Apocalypse's DNA again could allow it, which would be easy to procure with Apocalypse now among the X-Men. However, Apocalypse may not want someone who's essentially another version of himself running around the island.

Despite Evan's absence, some of his classmates have continued to rise in prominence in the current era of X-Men stories, such as Quinten Quire serving among X-Force and Broo becoming the Brood King. If he was around, Genisis could be the ultimate check to Apocalypse and his seeming ambitions to take the mutant race in a more mystical direction.

Theoretically, Evan could still be alive but trapped in X-Man's alternate reality, which could mean he could return alongside the currently missing Nate Grey. A mutant as powerful as Evan couldn't have just been completely taken off the board, and it's only a matter of time before someone tries to bring him back into the fold.
