WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Way of X #3 by Si Spurrier, Bob Quinn, Java Tartaglia, VC's Clayton Cowles and Tom Muller, on sale now.

The Hellfire Gala has put mutantkind back in the spotlight like they rarely have been before. While most of Krakoa are enjoying their newfound place as the center of the solar system, Nightcrawler is worried about the future of his people from a more personal perspective. In his pursuit of a new mutant dogma, Nightcrawler has just come across the next generation of his people, and they're being cared for by one of Marvel's newest mutants, the gravity-defying Lost.

Following the Gala, Nightcrawler is reunited with the pheromone controlling mutant Stacy X who has become the de facto head of the Bower. This holy place is a safe space for mutants to gather and be intimate with one another. It has also become home to a generation of newborn mutants left behind by those without means to care for them. And here, Lost, the mysterious mutant who first appeared in Way of X #1 by Si Spurrier and Robert Quinn, has not only found somewhere to be without inadvertently harming others, she has found her truest calling.

When Lost first became known to Nightcrawler, he misunderstood her and believed that she was telling him about her predicament, not her name. After losing her powers during the Decimation, Lost found herself in immense pain due to her elongated body no longer existing within its own independent gravity. Now that she has gone through the Crucible and been reborn, she has again ended up an outsider among her own people due to the nauseating effect her presence has on others. With the babies of Krakoa, however, she is at peace, as their inner ears having not fully developed leaves them immune to her abilities. Now Lost has a place where she can both exist as herself and be genuinely wanted. Unfortunately, even the Bower isn't free from all altercations, and one has just brought Lost's past traumas roiling to the surface.

When Fabian Cortez is evicted from the Bower for being an incredible creep, he goes through his usual motions of asking if those who have disrespected him know who he is, which Lost overhears only to be filled with rage. Though her history is still untold, it clearly revolves at least in part around the Acolytes, as their very mention sends her into a rage that comes crashing down right on top of the unsuspecting Cortez.

With the ferocity of her attack, it comes as no surprise that Onslaught is the one further stoking her fury, although there is no guarantee she even needed that, considering Cortez's personal history of cruel depravity.

Despite the psychic intrusion of Onslaught and the disruption caused by Fabian Cortez, the fact that Lost has found a place for herself on Krakoa after what has been an objectively horrifying experience might just be the most wholesome thing to happen yet for the island nation. It also provides an important glimmer of hope that the mutants who live there are more capable of taking care of their own than Nightcrawler previously believed. His quest for a unifying mutant religion has so far only provided him with a greater lack of faith than ever before, and Lost could very well be exactly who he needs to show him the way.
