Mutantkind is about to be divided in "The Trial of Magneto," an upcoming X-Men event teased for August.

Marvel Comics released promotional artwork by John Romita Jr. for "The Trial of Magneto," which promises to "divide mutantkind." Magneto is shown in a dark-colored version of his current costume with white trim on his helmet, jacket, top and pants. He is also crouching over a railroad track that is buckling under the pressure from his mutant power over magnetism, as nails pop up into the air.

Magneto is one of the central figures of Marvel's X-Men relaunch under Jonathan Hickman. Together with Charles Xavier and Moira MacTaggert, the trio charted mutants on a new path in the Marvel Universe by establishing the sovereign island of Krakoa. The Master of Magnetism is also a member of Krakoa's Quiet Council, which is Krakoa's governing body. Aside from appearances in X-Men, Magneto is also a part of Al Ewing and Valerio Schiti's S.W.O.R.D.

Marvel promises more details on "The Trial of Magneto" next week.
