Over the years, we've encountered thousands of mutants thanks to the X-Men franchise. Most bearers of the X-Gene possess unique powers, such as the ability to heal from grievous injuries or teleport from one place to another. Mutants with more potent abilities are dubbed Omega-Level mutants because their powers give them to potential to wreak widespread havoc across the world.

Fans often wonder if a mutant can exceed the ominous Omega Level ranking, and what happens when they do? Simply, any mutant that surpasses the last letter of the Greek alphabet essentially attains godhood! Today, we're going to discuss 10 instances where mutants gained god-like power.

10 Legion Erases Himself From Existence

David Holler is either one of the luckiest mutants in history or one of the least fortunate, depending on one’s perspective. On one hand, David plays host to a Legion of incredibly powerful alter-egos, many of whom could destroy worlds with ease. On the other hand, David can’t control all those personalities, making them a threat to himself and his loved ones.

Tired of ping-ponging between the role of a savior and a sadist, Legion one day embraced his godly potential – then erased himself from the space-time continuum! On our worst days, we might wish that we’d never been born. David simply decided to one-up all of us in the worst possible way.

9 Wolverine's Reborn

Of all the other characters in this article, James Howlett is one of the few who isn’t an Omega-Level mutant. Wolverine’s innate powerset, while useful, isn't anything to write home about. Rather, it’s his tenacity and grit that help have helped him win the day – as well as most of our hearts – over the years.

However, a comic exists wherein Logan gained incredible cosmic powers; an evil alien killed Wolverine, reducing him to a single drop of blood. But when that droplet contacted a powerful alien artifact, Wolverine resurrected with phenomenal abilities! Believing that no one man should have so much power, Logan used his newfound godhood to halt the evil alien’s machinations and then revert to his normal self.

8 Rogue Gains Thor's Powers

Rogue with the powers from Thor in What If...?

Like Legion, Rogue’s powers are either a blessing or a curse depending on perspective. She’s able to mimic the powers of any meta-humans that she touches, even Omega-Level mutants, by painfully draining their abilities via physical contact. Rogue struggles to form relationships with individuals that she cares for (it's pretty hard to hug your nephew if you can kill with a touch,) but she's a nightmare to fight against in battle.

Speaking of nightmare scenarios, there's a "What If" storyline that involves Rogue stealing Thor's powers! This happened during Rouge's evil phase, so she uses the Thunder God's powers to rain on everyone else's parades. Rogue even wielding Mjolnir during the entire event, giving "Hammer Time" a terrifying new connotation.

7 As Well As Storm

Of course, Rogue isn't the only character that's feuded with Thor before - there are countless Frost Giants who are waiting in line in Jotunhiem to take a shot at the Thunderer. But when it comes to stealing Thor's thunder, no one knows how to get under the Odinson's Asgardian skin like Loki.

In one of Loki's past schemes, he created the hammer Stormcaster for a recently depowered Ororo Munroe. The hammer imbued Storm with the powers of a Thunder Goddess, as well as a thirst for blood. Numerous gods and heroes joined together to neutralize Storm - nearly getting turned to ashes in the process!

6 Anytime Magik Enters Limbo

Magik Darkchylde

Magik used to be a sweet little girl before a demonic sorcerer kidnapped and imprisoned her for years. In need of a servant, the sorcerer helped Magik become a powerful mage, eventually more so than himself. Magik overthrew her captor and bound her soul to the realm of Limbo, resulting in her Darkchylde persona.

As Darkchylde, Magik’s arcane abilities become exponentially powerful. Usually, she can only access her Darkchylde powers in Limbo. However, there’ve been a few occasions wherein Magik caused Hell on Earth.

5 The Phoenix Five Forms

The Phoenix Five Consisting Of Namor, Magik, Cyclops, Emma Frost, And Colossus

A few years ago, the Avengers and the X-Men went to war to determine the fate of Hope Summers. AvsX remains one of Marvel's more polarizing events, largely due to the portrayals of certain fan-favorite characters. Scott Summers spends the early parts of the event campaigning for mutant equality and calling out the Avengers for not helping as much as they could've in the past.

But near the end of AvsX, Cyclops, Colussus, Emma Frost, Magik, and Namor inherit the Phoenix Force and become the Phoenix Five. All discourse ends then and there, as the Phoenix Five develop a massive collective god complex. Special mention goes to Cyclops, who siphons the Phoenix Force from the others and becomes a Dark Phoenix avatar!

4 En Sabah Nur Becomes Apocalypse

A looming Apocalypse arrives on Krakoa in Marvel Comics

As dangerous as the Phoenix Five were, we're hardpressed to call them evil. After all, they only lashed out after the Avengers essentially provoked them, and genuinely wanted to help mutantkind. Plenty of fans argue that the Dark Phoenix is to blame for the Five's more malicious acts. On the flip side of the coin, En Sabah Nur is a far less ambiguous character.

Since the time of pharaohs, En Sabah Nur aspired towards godhood. When he gained access to a Celestial Ship, Nur used sophisticated technology to evolve into something more than a mutant. Nur became Apocalypse that day and has tried to take over the world ever since.

3 Magneto Becomes A Celestial

Apocalypse isn't the only mutant to exceed their limitations using Celestial technology: Max Eisenhardt, aka Magneto, once used his mastery over magnetism to wear a Celestial like a suit of armor! Magento pulled off this incredible feat in Uncanny X-Men Vol 2 #1.

It's worth noting that this act put an immense strain on the Master of Magnetism; Max stated that he felt like his brain would leak out of his eye sockets if he kept this up for too much longer! We'll probably never see Magneto fuse with a Celestial again, but it was certainly a sight to behold.

2 Franklin Richards Beats Onslaught

Stan Lee Franklin Richards

What do you get when you mix an elastic man with an insane intellect with an invisible woman who's as brilliant in her own right? A freaking reality-warping, godlike mutant! Ever since childhood, Franklin Richards exhibited an unprecedented powerset - making him a target for villains like the psychic entity Onslaught.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and countless other champions joined together to battle Onslaught - all to no avail. It wasn't until Franklin tapped into his mind-bending powers that Onslaught tasted defeat.

1 Jean Grey Becomes The White Phoenix

Many characters have served as hosts to the Phoenix Force over the years. However, Jean Grey's connection to the Void Falcon is second-to-none; countless X-Men stories feature Jean Grey tapping into the Phoenix Force and becoming extremely overpowered. Special mention goes to the legendary Dark Phoenix saga - you know, that one storyline that Hollywood can't adapt for some reason.

Jean's White Phoenix form is her strongest state - she gains the ability to create life, as well as take it away, on a cosmic scale! Before, the Phoenix used Jean like a meat suit. However, White Phoenix Jean is the result of Grey and the Phoenix Force becoming one godlike being.
