X-Men: Legends will feature several top-tier creators telling the lost tales of Marvel's mutant heroes. The first story will finally resolve the mystery of Adam-X, courtesy of writer Fabian Nicieza.

According to Nicieza, he took the job because he felt as though he'd reached the right point to do it. "I'm at an incredibly comfortable place in my life as it regards my writing, so I felt I had more than enough new, different, and interesting things on my schedule that I could 'go back' to tell a 'past story' without feeling like a writer that people would think that was the only bullet I had in my creative pea-shooter," he told CBR.

Nicieza also thanked editor Mark Basso for offering him the chance to work on the series. "He asked for a 2-parter and a one-shot self-contained issue. Adam-X is the only pitch I made for the two-parter. I expected every step of the way that I would pull out, thank them for the offer, but decline to continue with the project. But every step of the way, Mark was encouraging, helpful, and challenging."

Adam-X was co-created by Nicieza and Tony Daniel in 1993. A Shi'ar-human hybrid, Adam was the son of Kate Summers, which would have made him the brother of X-Men members Cyclops and Havok. Nicieza will team with artist Brett Booth to tell an in-continuity tale that finally resolves Adam's parentage. Nicieza has written other notable X-Men tales, including the current Juggernaut miniseries from Marvel and the wedding of Cyclops and Jean Grey.

X-Men: Legends #1 goes on sale Feb. 2021 from Marvel.
