Introduced back in Giant Size X-Men #1, Storm has went on to become not only one of the most beloved members of the X-Men, but also one of the most beloved Marvel characters. Able to control the weather, she's been a member of all three of Marvel's biggest teams- the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four, and led the X-Men longer than anyone but Cyclops. She's been a goddess, a queen, a superhero, wielded her own Asgardian hammer, and has had some of the greatest costumes and hair styles in comics.

With the X-Men getting a lot of renewed interest lately, it's only a matter of time before Storm gets more spotlight again. However, that spotlight might find some things that don't make the most sense. This list is going to look at some of those things.

10 Marrying Black Panther

Storm and Black Panther were married for a few years and it didn't make any sense. They did a bit of retconning in the lead up to it- saying that the two had met at some point when they were younger and fell in love but were parted by circumstances.

However, all of that retconning just smacks of narrative convenience. Africa is a huge place and it's highly doubtful that the prince of a technologically advanced nation known for hiding itself and being extremely insular would be out exploring the Serengeti, where he would meet the weather goddess of a tribe living out there.

9 Leaving The Team

Storm and Black Panther marry each other in Wakanda in Marvel Comics

This comes from the same period of her marrying Black Panther. After Scarlet Witch's depowering of most mutantkind, Storm left the team and went to Africa and rekindle her (nonsensical) relationship with Black Panther. So, Storm, a leader of the X-Men and a role model among mutantkind, would just abandon her friends when things were the toughest for them?

Yeah, no. Narrative convenience rears its ugly head again. Marvel wanted Storm and Black Panther together, so they made her act out of character and leave her friends and family when they needed her the most.

8 Her Relationship With Wolverine

5 Wolverine and Storm

After Cyclops went crazy during the events of Avengers Vs. X-Men, Storm would go to the Jean Grey School and become a teacher, reuniting with Wolverine and her other friends. The two would eventually enter into a romantic relationship before his death. After his return, it's been pretty much forgotten and there's good reason for this- it didn't make any sense at all.

Wolverine and Storm are the best of friends and their relationship has always been closer to family than anything else. The two of them love each other, but it's not a romantic type of love. Putting them together as a couple makes no sense whatsoever.

7 Siding With Cyclops

Storm Extinction Team Cropped

Near the tail end of the Utopia years, Wolverine and Cyclops got into an ideological battle that became a physical one that divided the remainder of the mutant race. In a nutshell, Cyclops ordered a teenage mutant to kill a bunch of people instead of waiting for back up and Wolverine took exception to it.

Mutants chose sides and Storm sided with Cyclops. Storm supported Cyclops in his decision to use children as soldiers. This isn't something Storm would ever do and even if she was cool with it for some reason, she would still have probably sided with Wolverine because they are much closer than her and Cyclops.

6 Siding With Cyclops (Again)

Cyclops vs Captain America while the Avengers fight the X-Men

During her time as an Avenger, the Phoenix Force's impending return to Earth would put the X-Men and the Avengers at each other's throats. Storm would side with Cyclops during the conflict, supporting him in his insistence that the Phoenix represented no danger to the world and that everything would work out just fine if it came to Earth.

Well, it didn't, and even though Storm was smart enough to see the path Cyclops and company were going down, she stayed with his side until Namor's attack on Wakanda. Storm is someone who has been around since the Phoenix first came to Earth and knows just how dangerous it can be. For her to side with Cyclops (who also should have known better) was pretty nonsensical.

5 Feeling Bad About Fighting The Inhumans

After Cyclops died during the beginning of the Terrigen Mist crisis, Storm took over leadership of the X-Men and mutantkind, ushering them all to Limbo where they would be safe from the Terrigen Mists. The X-Men eventually found out that the Mists would render Earth uninhabitable for mutants and sprang into action.

The X-Men set out to destroy the Terrigen cloud, but the Inhumans tried to stop them and eventually, both sides agreed that the cloud should be eliminated. Afterward, Storm felt bad about having to the fight Inhumans and gave the reins of leadership to Kitty Pryde. Storm feeling bad about fighting genocidal villains bent on the destruction of mutantkind for their own purposes makes no sense whatsoever.

4 Her First Costume

Storm

Storm's first costume has some definite iconic flourishes to it- the headdress, the way the cape connects to her arms, and the color scheme, but beyond that it's extremely impractical for someone who spends a lot of time flying and conjuring up storms.

Why? Well, flying gets pretty cold and it doesn't get any warmer when one is making windstorms and rain. Her powers don't allow her much control over making things warmer.

3 Some Of Her Hairstyles

Specifically, the early '90s one. Storm went a bit glam rock in general with her early 90s couture (that silver costume screams front row at a Motley Crue show), but her big hair makes no sense at all.

Storm spends a lot of time conjuring up winds and all that big hair would whip around her face, screwing up her vision, and that's not even taking into account what would happen if it got wet, which it would because storms. Did it look cool? Sure. Was it practical? Nope.

2 Not Marrying Forge

Forge and Storm got together when she had lost her powers, overcoming the fact that one of Forge's inventions took them away. They would stay an item for a long time and eventually, Forge would ask her to marry him. She would hesitate in answering and Forge would leave.

However, she was going to answer yes, so why did she hesitate at all? That said, Forge probably shouldn't have reacted the way he did either, but two wrongs don't make a right.

1 Ditching Her Punk Rock Look

Marvel Comics' Storm in her punk rock costume, avoiding an optic blast from Cyclops

Over the years, Storm has been one of the coolest looking X-Men, even if her costumes didn't always make a lot of sense. However, her coolest look will always be her mid-'80s punk rock look. The black leather kept part of her old color scheme and made her look fierce, and she had the best mohawk ever.

This look remains her best one and it's sort of mystifying why she ever abandoned it. With a few tweaks, it could be timeless. At least artists are smart enough to bring her mohawk backoccasionally.
