The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #17, now on sale from Marvel Comics.

The events of Dark Web have dragged many notable Marvel heroes into a pretty hellish ordeal, forcing them to contend with the deadly foes and twisted laws of Limbo. But along the way, one notable hero has accidentally inspired one of the demons to try and be a hero in a perfectly goofy way.

Spider-Man's latest adventure in Limbo in Amazing Spider-Man #17 (by Zeb Wells, Ed McGuinness, Cliff Rathburn, Marcio Menyz, and VC's Joe Caramagna) ends up accidentally setting the stage for a new ridiculous Spider-Hero in the form of Rek-Rap. The goofy Spider-Man wannabee could quietly become one of the Wall-Crawler's strangest allies and could be a breath of fresh air for Limbo.

Spider-Man Encounters Demonic Versions of the Sinister Six - And a Fan

Dark Web Spider-Man Bizarro 2

Spider-Man and the X-Men have found themselves trapped in the demonic realm of Limbo as a result of Chasm and the Goblin Queen's machinations. Some heroes have been able to handle themselves in combat against the legions of demons, while others (like Spider-Man, Cyclops, and Havok) are stuck trying to reason with the former allies who've condemned them to hell. But along the way, they may have actually picked up some surprising allies -- none more so than Spider-Man, who's seemingly inspired another hero in his image.

After Peter Parker saves a demon from one of his irate peers, one of Limbo's citizens begins to idolize him. Taking up the mantle of Parker-Man in honor of his new hero, the scrawny demon finds himself quickly chased off by Chasm's latest invention, the Insidious Six -- a demonic version of the Sinister Six that transforms some of Limbo's demonic citizens into copies of the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Scorpion, Rhino, Lizard, and Kraven. But thanks to a demonic sorcerer along with a mixture of Asgardian magic and a shred of a symbiote, Parker-Man was fused to the new entity that mimics the appearance of Spider-Man. The newly empowered Parker-Man is able to rush into battle to help his idol, proudly calling himself the heroic Rek-Rap.

Rek-Rap Should Become Limbo's Spider-Man

Dark Web Spider-Man Bizarro 1

Rek-Rap is far from the first person to take inspiration from Spider-Man, and likely won't be the last. However, he offers a lot of potential going forward as a concept. Rek-Rap will likely have a twisted version of how a superhero is supposed to act, making him a comical and potentially tragic variant of Spider-Man. He's even got his own group of villains who are essentially clones of Spider-Man's rogues' gallery, giving him plenty of characters to go up against. With Limbo getting more attention in Marvel storylines, it wouldn't be surprising to see more characters flesh out the hellish realm.

Rek-Rap might be the ideal "hero" in that setting, giving Limbo its own hero who could help (or hinder) any characters who find themselves trapped in the realm. He could also have a fun comedic role alongside Spider-Man, exhausting the hero and potentially even damaging his reputation if he ever got loose in the core Marvel Universe. There's a really fun concept at the heart of Rek-Rap, a well-intentioned demon who can poke fun at Spider-Man's most enduring qualities while still trying to live up to him. Hopefully, he will continue to appear following the events of Dark Web and could breathe new life into Limbo.
