As Dark Phoenix gears up to release this June, all eyes are on its star-studded cast -- especially Sophie Turner, the film's lead actress. The Game of Thrones star reflected on her time as the X-Men's A-list heroine, Jean Grey, in a recent interview, calling her experience working with Bryan Singer "unpleasant."

Controversy is nothing new to Singer, the director who rose to fame with 2000's X-Men. His career has been mired with allegations of sexual abuse, rewoken by the vigor of the #MeToo movement in 2017. Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek recently spoke out against the director, highlighting his tendency to fight with the star, which once culminated in Singer throwing things on set. Turner's recent comments mirror Malek's.

"Our time together was, like Rami said, unpleasant," said Turner in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Turner's work with Singer started with 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse when she donned the persona of a young Jean. As more projects began to cut ties with Singer, so too did the X-Men franchise.

The next installment, Dark Phoenix, will serve as a direct sequel to Apocalypse, featuring the return of several key cast members like Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence. However, instead of Singer at the helm, Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg.

Turner will reprise her role in Dark Phoenix, which premieres on June 7, 2019.
