The following contains spoilers for Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants #2, now on sale from Marvel Comics

The Krakoa Era has been one of advancement and celebration for the mutants, even as the dangers to their lives continues to threaten the X-Men and their legacy. One of the biggest points in this period has been the clarification of Omega-Level Mutants as a concept, highlighting the limitless possibilities afforded to those with that kind of power. But it turns out, there are some pretty impressive ways to go beyond that.

Storm's mission in Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants #2 (by Al Ewing, Andrea Di Vito, Jim Charalampidis, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC's Ariana Maher) requires her to unleash her full potential and even find a way to amplify her theoretically limitless Omega-Level Mutant powers. By fusing her powers with magic, Storm is able to call upon her own history in a way that exceeds her usual abilities in a truly amazing way. But the process comes with a clear cost that any other Omega-Level Mutant should keep in mind.

How Storm's Omega-Level Powers Can Be Amplified

X-Men Sins of Sinister Storm Magic Boost 2

Taking place a century into the corrupted Quiet Council's rule, Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants #2 focuses on a desperate ploy by the heroes to stop the Interstellar Compact. Led by Orbis Stellaris, the organization has crafted a new base the size of a solar system, with advanced technology aboard and an artificial sun at the heart. It also houses the Moira Engine, Mister Sinister's collection of Moira MacTaggert clones that he'd previously used to reset the timeline.

While Sinister is in a desperate Star Trek-style search for the Engine to undo the damage caused by the Red Diamond Empire, Storm and her Brotherhood locate it first with the help of Destiny. Eventually breaking into the Death Sphere, the group reaches the Center-Sin that fuels the entire base. But rather than destroy it and simply reset the timeline, Storm is determined not to doom an entire universe for the sake of just restoring the Earth. With the help of Khora's power-amplifying abilities, Storm is able to use her Omega-Level powers in junction with another aspect of her heritage, her magical potential.

How Storm Fuses Magic With Mutation

X-Men Sins of Sinister Storm Magic Boost 1

Storm has often been hinted to have an aptitude for magic that she doesn't often utilize to its full potential. Wanda Maximoff noted that she had an innate gift for the mystic arts and variants of Ororo Munroe have embraced the supernatural upon being trapped in realms like Limbo. With the help of Khora, the Storm of Sins of Sinister is able to call upon the "sorcerous line" she descends from as well as the ancient gods Amun and Hauhet for their blessing as she casts a truly phenomenal spell. By fusing her Omega-Level control of the elements with her magic potential, Storm is able to create a storm powerful enough to shake an entire reality, causing a wormhole in the heart of the Death Sphere to take the core to the far edges of the galaxy.

It's a truly awe-inspiring moment for Storm, proving that even the limitless capabilities of Omega-Level abilities can still be augmented with external elements. Fusing her Omega-Level mutant powers with magic, Storm was able to cast a spell that even the likes of Doctor Strange would likely have trouble mastering. The cost though is that unlike Storm's mutant powers, magic seems to have a greater impact on the user. The force of the fusion proved too great for the already very old Storm, who dies from the effort after mentioning an "offering" to Khora. It's a reminder of the sheer cost that these kinds of powers can come with, even in timelines where unchecked power has become the standard operating procedure for the Red Diamond Empire.
