The following contains spoilers for Sins of Sinister #1, now on sale from Marvel Comics

Sins of Sinister #1 (by Kieron Gillen, Lucas Werneck, Geoffrey Shaw, Marco Checchetto, and others) reveals the full-scope of Sinister's plans. By inserting a level of moral corruption and mental control into Krakoa's genetic copies of all mutants, Sinister can effectively corrupt anyone exposed to the X-Gene.

But thanks to some grim planning and quick conversion of the X-Men, Sinister is able to effectively take over the entire world without lifting a finger. It's a game-changer for the villain and leads to the corruption and deaths of numerous major heroes. Here are all the worst fates that befall Marvel's heroes in a world where Mister Sinister gains control of the X-Men.

The Avengers Become Pawns In Sinister's Game

Sins of Sinister Marvel Universe Death 2

Initially, the Avengers remained aligned with the Sins of Sinister X-Men, working with them to destroy Orchis. Sadly, this all plays into Sinister's hands, whose eventual schemes use his pawns to remove the Avengers from the board entirely. Thor (and all of Asgard) are sent spiraling into the unknown cosmos courtesy of Magik's amplified teleportation powers.

The Scarlet Witch is assassinated to prevent her from undoing Sinister's work. The human Avengers like Captain America are themselves corrupted and lead the others in a one-way mission that results in Captain America killing the United States President. This makes them the perfect enemy to fall at the X-Men's hands and cement mutantkind as Earth's True Mightiest Heroes.

Mister Sinister's X-Men Eliminated the Fantastic Four's Greatest Enemy

Sins of Sinister Marvel Universe Death 1

Mister Sinister is usually so dismissive of everyone around him, but his recognition of Mister Fantastic and The Fantastic Four as a real threat to his dominance stands out. Rather than risk corrupting Reed Richard's mind for himself, Sinister takes comfort in tricking the Thing into accepting a voluntary X-Gene -- placing him under Sinister's control. As a sleeper agent, Thing is able to wait until the right moment to attack the team while they're lost in a cosmic storm in deep space. This corrupted Thing ends up spreading a lethal version of his rocky skin to his teammates while strangling Reed as their ship is lost forever.

Doctor Doom also presented enough of a threat to Sinister's rule that he needed to be addressed directly. But thanks to his knowledge of Doom and Namor's long-standing friendship, Sinister targeted the King of Atlantis to get to Doom. When Doom broached an alliance between the two, he was betrayed and killed by a corrupted Namor. However, while Doom himself seemingly dies, it's notable that one last Doombot escaped. It is believed to have aligned with the remnants of Orchis.

Spider-Man & His Loved Ones Suffer A Sinister Fate

Sins of Sinister Marvel Universe Death 6

Spider-Man and his loved ones may not be directly tied to mutants, but they've been drawn into plenty of their conflicts over the years, most recently with Mary-Jane's kidnapping by Moira MacTaggert and during the events of Dark Web. But it seems in the Sins of Sinister timeline, Peter Parker's life would be one of the many radically altered and potentially corrupted by Sinister's influence.

Within the first year of Sinister's control of Krakoa, his voluntary X-Genes would have spread to people like J. Jonah Jameson -- who used his resources to bolster public opinion about mutants while ensuring rabble-rousers like Phil Ulrich are eliminated. Meanwhile, within ten years of Sinister's domain, Spider-Man has either been replaced or potentially even killed. Now the streets of New York City are now protected by a Wall-Crawler version of Nightcrawler belonging to the Night Legion.

The Second Eternals/X-Men War Would Imprison The Immortals Forever

Sins of Sinister Marvel Universe Death 3

In theory, the Eternals could have been crucial in defeating the corrupted X-Men and preventing the spread of their plans across the Marvel Universe. But after framing the immortals for planning a fresh attack on Krakoa, the X-Men were able to utilize the most dangerous tool they had left over after the events of Judgment Day. They used their access to Uranos and his destructive abilities for a full hour.

Releasing the villain against his own species, it isn't long before Uranos is able to wipe out the Eternals and place them back into their own resurrection process. However, the X-Men by this point had found a way to counter it. They imprison their personalities within stasis on a space station far away from the Earth. Doing so more or less negates the Eternals, and even helps prevent someone like Thanos from coming back after he's also killed by the X-Men.

Which Heroes Might Have Survived The X-Men's Darkest World?

Storm in Sins of Sinister

While not every Marvel hero is shown to have died or survived in the event, there are some figures who could into play soon against the Sinister-corrupted mutants -- chief among them Storm. One of the few major X-Men who was able to avoid resurrection (and therefore never be exposed to Sinister's influence), Storm's alliance with Mystique, Destiny, and the mutants of Arakko is set to be a major thorn in the side of Sinister's rule. Moira's escape from the destruction of Orchis (and the tease about the last Doombot allying with her) also could set up some serious resistance to this dark mutant-led future.

There are also a handful of major Marvel heroes teased in the story's events that could come back into play. The Spirits of Vengeance are revealed to have fled Sinister's new world and could return to aid in the fight against them. A corrupted Hope also mentions threats to their rule in space, hinting that forces like the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Shi'Ar Empire, or the Kree/Skrull Alliance could come into play. However, Xandra's status as a mutant and her own resurrection during the events of Marauders might have also played into Sinister's hands.
