The world fears the X-Men due to bigotry and hatred. Mutants have an interesting history in Marvel Comics as a minority, born with extraordinary powers, which causes normal humans to fear those who are different. It has little to do with power, as men like Captain America was given his powers and Iron Man built a war suit, but ordinary people love them. It is when someone is born different, that the hate begins.

It doesn't help that, as soon as the X-Men do something to make people love them, one of their members does something to turn the tides again. So many members of the X-Men betrayed the team and their morals that it is hard to trust mutants. Here is a look at 10 X-Men, who should never be trusted.

10 GAMBIT

Gambit is a good person to have on your side in a fight, but he is someone that no one can ever fully trust. He was a member of the Thieves' Guild as a younger man, and he has never been completely honest.

His lies have ruined his relationship with Rogue, as he was directly responsible for leading the Marauders to the Morlock tunnels, causing the Mutant Massacre. Later, he also became one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, showing that he usually looks out for himself over all else.

9 MYSTIQUE

The latter X-Men movies showed Mystique as a hero, a childhood friend of Charles Xavier, who was a strong leader for the X-Men. She even died a hero in Dark Phoenix when she tried to save Jean Grey.

However, at the same time, Mystique almost started the extinction of the mutant race in Days of Future Past. Look to the comic books to see a woman who will betray anyone at any time, no matter which side she happens to be fighting on.

8 MAGNETO

Magneto is the X-Men's greatest villain, and then became a leader and teacher for the mutants. He was Cyclops' right-hand man for years and was the leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants for many more years.

The movies showed Magneto as a conflicted soul, which he was in the comic books as well, but at his heart, Magento is a villain who hates humanity and wants nothing more than for mutants to rule the world. This is not the X-Men's mission.

7 WOLVERINE

In the storyline Avengers Vs. X-Men, Wolverine proved who could trust him and who couldn't trust him. The X-Men could not trust Wolverine to fight by their side as he chose to take The Avengers side in the fight.

He also proved to be someone that Captain America couldn't trust either, as Logan wanted to kill Hope to stop the Phoenix Force from arriving on Earth, and the two heroes fought to stop him. Wolverine is very narrow-focused and will do what he wants, no matter the effects on his teammates.

6 JEAN GREY

Jean Grey and the Phoenix Force in Ultimate X-Men

When the Hellfire Club opened up Jean Grey's mind, and the Dark Phoenix took over, she almost destroyed the world. As a matter of fact, she destroyed an entire universe.

Yes, this was the Phoenix Force and not actually Jean Grey, but that is just splitting hairs. The fact is the Phoenix Force has a connection with Jean. As long as she is alive, Jean is a danger to anyone and everyone around her.

5 ARCHANGEL

X-Men-Apocalypse-Archangel

As one of the original X-Men, Angel was a pure good guy. He was the son of a wealthy family and hid his wings to live out of the shadow of his role as a mutant. Angel was almost too good at times, with his entire moniker showing his purity. Then, after he lost his wings and grew despondent, he didn't seem to want to live anymore.

Apocalypse took him in, gave him new metal wings, and he became Archangel, one of the Horsemen. Since that change, Archangel is much more aggressive and dangerous and is an entirely different person than he was when he was starting.

4 CYCLOPS

Cyclops has proven time and time again that he is not the blue boy scout that used to differentiate him from Wolverine. While Scott lived at one time to promote the ideals of mutants living in harmony with humans, he has since become a military mastermind who sends children out to kill to keep the mutants safe.

After the Avengers Vs. X-Men storyline, Cyclops became a martyr for the cause and was no longer seen by anyone as a hero anymore.

3 QUICKSILVER

Quicksilver

For fans who got to know Quicksilver in the X-Men movies, that is nothing like the character from the comics. Both are the sons of Magneto, but the one in the films is idealistic and happy to be a hero. He is a bright spot in the world of mutant hysteria.

However, in the comics, he is his father's son. He is an angry man who hates just about everyone and refuses to follow anyone's lead. He is a good soldier to have on your side in battle, but he is there only for himself.

2 EMMA FROST

White Queen entering the room

Emma Frost was someone that has always been impossible to trust. She was a member of the Hellfire Club, the organization that almost destroyed the world by messing with Jean Grey's mind. She had her own school, with a young team that was aggressive and held a hatred for humanity.

Even when she realized that Professor X's ideals were right, she was still an arrogant and hateful headmistress. She proved in Inhumans Vs. X-Men that no one could trust her as she manipulated the entire war.

1 PROFESSOR X

Marvel X-Men Professor X

When the X-Men formed, they worked under the leadership and teachings of Professor Charles Xavier. His goals were to ensure that humans and mutants could live as one, in peace, with no fear. To achieve that goal, he sent children out to battle evil mutants to protect the world.

Along the way, he got an entire team killed and covered it up. Xavier erased the fact that Scott had a brother. He mindwiped Wolverine to make him a loyal soldier. He faked his death. Professor X joined the Illuminati. Nothing that Charles Xavier has ever done in life warrants the trust the X-Men had in him.
