WARNING: The following contains spoilers for S.W.O.R.D. #6 by Al Ewing, Valerio Schiti, Marte Gracia & VC's Ariana Maher, on sale now.

While WandaVision may have made her a household name in the real world, the Scarlet Witch is one of the most controversial figures within the Marvel Universe itself. In the mutant nation Krakoa, the Avenger has been demonized by many members of the island nation for her role in depowering the vast majority of the world's mutants at the end of House of M.

However, one of Marvel's strongest mutant leaders, Magneto, still has a soft spot for Wanda. While he may not be her biological father, the Omega-Level mutant still wants to make amends with Scarlet Witch. And in S.W.O.R.D. #6, he does just that, which in turn could set up real positive growth for Krakoa or light a spark that could see Krakoa go up in flames.

Tensions still remain between the Avenger and the majority of the X-Men and their allies, with these lingering problems stemming from Wanda's actions in House of M. After briefly using her powers to create a world where mutants had become the dominant species on Earth, an enraged Wanda used her reality-shaping abilities to remove the mutant powers from roughly 98% of all mutants across the world. This led to the Decimation period, where the remaining mutants were radically targeted and increasingly forced on the run. Scarlet Witch has tried to find some semblance of peace with the mutants, but her time with the Uncanny Avengers did little to elevate her standing among them, and her attempt to revive the mutants of Genosha during Empyre instead resulted in a massive amount of corrupted undead mutants.

Even on Krakoa, Scarlet Witch is considered a monster by many of the young mutants on Krakoa, and Magneto has been dealing with his own emotions on the situation. His own views about Wanda have been conflicted, especially considering that Krakoa's official stance of Scarlet Witch as a public enemy has resulted in a roadblock between the growing alliance between the mutant nation and the Kree/Skrull Empire, where one of Wanda's children, Billy Kaplan, is married to the Emperor. But Magneto gets the chance to reflect on those lingering problems while having a private drink following the successful terra-forming of Mars into Planet Arakko in S.W.O.R.D. #6.

It turns out that Magneto had actually invited Wanda to the event as his personal guest, but the Scarlet Witch couldn't face the rest of the mutant nation. Magneto speaks with Scarlet Witch, talking about his first child Anya. While Magneto is proud to have helped make a world where mutant children can be safe, he's also grown guilty about his own poor history as a father.

Despite the fact that he's not technically the biological father of the Scarlet Witch, Magneto admits that he still sees her as his daughter and embraces her in a hug, promising to make things right with her going forward. For her part, Wanda seems to reciprocate those feelings, happy to be accepted and embraced by the man she believed to be her father for years. This is a huge step forward for Magneto, who has appeared conflicted about the demonization of Wanda. But with his help, Krakoa can move beyond their hatred for the Scarlet Witch.

Doing so would likely ease tensions with the Avengers and would have the added benefit of removing the last block between an alliance of Krakoa and the Kree/Skrull Empire. Despite his clearly good intentions, there's cause for concern for Magneto. The teased "Trial of Magneto" storyline will see the Master of Magnetism embroiled in a murder that could shake the foundations of Krakoa and the world as a whole. Meanwhile, the shape-shifting Mystique has promised to bring chaos to Krakoa and destroy the mutant nation in revenge for refusing to revive her long-dead wife Destiny. There's a chance "Wanda" might not be who she says she is -- and that this could be leading Magneto down a potentially ruinous path paved with good intentions.
