X-MEN/FANTASTIC FOUR

X-Men Fantastic Four

Next month, writer Chip Zdarsky and illustrators Terry and Rachel Dodson are coming in hot with the 4-issue crossover miniseries, X-Men/Fantastic Four. The series will focus on the Omega-level mutant Franklin Richards, the as he's torn between the new mutant homeland established by Charles Xavier and his own family.

Zdarsky cites the 1980s Chris Claremont mini-series Fantastic Four vs. The X-Men as a major inspiration and notes that his run will have serious, long term repercussions in the Marvel Universe. He also cites the importance of the contrast between the family you’re born with and the family you ultimately choose, saying the series will be addressing Cyclops's invitation to Krakoa to Franklin back in House of X #1.

X-Men/Fantastic Four #1 by Chip Zdarsky and Terry and Rachel Dodson goes on sale Feb. 5., 2020.

WOLVERINE

Wolverine Kubert feature

Current X-Force writer Benjamin Percy has already written some of Logan's adventures, and now he's turning his attention to the solo Wolverine series. with art from both Adam Kubert and Viktor Bogdanovic. While not much has been revealed about the upcoming run, we do know that the first issue will be oversized and feature two tonally and stylistically distinct stories. The series will focus on Logan’s place in this new world, touching on his skepticism of Professor X’s plan with Krakoa.

What makes this series so exciting, regardless of its plot specifics, is the team behind it. Benjamin Percy is becoming a Wolverine expert, not only with his run on X-Force, but with his previous work on the Wolverine audio drama and follow-up comic adaptation, Wolverine: The Long Night. Percy has a strong grasp on the character, and he recently told Newsarama that he’s “been waiting to write this series [his] whole life." With the veteran artists like Kubert and Bogdanovic on hand, this may end up being the Wolverine comic that fans have been waiting for too.

Wolverine #1 By Benjamin Percy, Adam Kubert, and Viktor Bogdanovic goes on sale Feb. 20., 2020.

Cable

Gerry Dugan and Phil Noto’s Cable solo series will also debut in March. Instead of the older, more grizzled Cable that Marvel fans know and love, this series will follow the young "Kid Cable" version of the character who brought Cyclops back to life in Extermination.

This Cable is currently appearing in Fallen Angels, and he'll be joined in his new series by mutants like Pixie and Armor. Despite his relative youth, he'll still be mentoring these other young mutnats as he stirs up trouble around Krakoa.

Cable #1 by Gerry Dugan and Phil Noto goes on sale March 11, 2020

Hellions

One of Krakoa’s most controversial founding principles was the amnesty it granted all criminally inclined mutants, including the long-time X-Men villain, Mister Sinister, who currently sits on the nation’s Quiet Council. Writer Zeb Wells and artist Stephen Segovia’s new series, Hellions, will dive deep into this new status quo, introducing an X-Team team of former villains, accompanied by Psylocke and Havok, and led my Mister Sinister himself.

The group will include the villains, Wild Child, Empath, Scalphunter, Harpoon, Nanny, and Orphan Maker and is named after Emma Frost’s former students from the Hell-Fire club. With Xavier’s X-Force already taking on some of the X-Men’s most dangerous foes through any means necessary, there's no telling what kind of trouble these mutants might get into.

Hellions #1 by Zeb Wells and Stephen Segovia goes on sale March 25, 2020.

X-FACTOR

Ever since reincarnation was established as the go-to post mortem mutant practice in House of X, readers have been clamoring for more information about the process. Now, Gwenpool Strikes Back creative team Leah Williams and David Baldeon’s new X-Factor series will explore that very idea.  The series will follow Northstar, Polaris, Prodigy, Eye-Boy, Daken and Prestige as they work with The Five (Krakoa’s resident resurrection team) to investigate mutant deaths and disappearances.

It will dive into the dynamics of The Five and this new team while beginning to reveal the bigger mysteries behind mutant resurrections and the complexities that arise when death is taken off the table. In an interview with Polygon, Williams said “The entire series is layered with clues about mutant resurrection’s ultimate end-game,” and for that reason alone it’s a series that will surely be worth checking out.

X-Factor #1 by Leah Williams and David Baldeon goes on sale in April 2020

Children of the Atom

Possibly the most mysterious Dawn of X expansion is Vita Ayala and Bernard Chang’s Children of The Atom. Featuring an entirely new cast of characters, the series will answer the question “What if the X-Men had sidekicks?” This question was expanded upon by Ayala, who noted her interest in creating a series about Gen-Z mutants, teens who had grown up admiring heroes like Storm and Wolverine and sought to follow in their footsteps.

Based on the released cover, it seems like these young mutants share similar powersets as classic X-Men characters like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Angel, possibly implying that we’ll be seeing the older generation mentor this new team.

Children of the Atom #1 by Vita Ayala and Bernard Chang goes on sale in April 2020.
