The X-Men film franchise is known for its highly uneven quality, but most agree that the 2017 film Logan is a masterpiece and one of the best superhero films ever made. A character piece primarily focused on Wolverine, the film sets itself apart from the other films in time, location, and setting in order to better explore its protagonist.

Logan's smaller-scale, introspective nature has been hugely praised, noted for being popular even among people who are not X-Men fans. With the main series of X-Men movies over, the team's roster is nonetheless full of characters who could easily carry their own film, and who would be greatly enhanced by the opportunity.

10 Quicksilver Could Enjoy An Entire Film

Evan Peters as Quicksilver in X-Men: Apocalypse

Peter 'Quicksilver' Maximoff has been a fan favorite since his introduction in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The unique, creative nature of the sequences he's in, coupled with Evan Peters' well-liked performance, has led to audiences warming up to the character. However, due to his powers, he is often removed early by either leaving the plot or being taken out in combat.

Quicksilver's speed, which is many times faster than the speed of sound, is almost impossible to include in an ensemble without rendering everyone else irrelevant. In a solo film, however, this is less of a concern, and Quicksilver could shine in his own environment. The films have shown plenty of fodder for a more emotional movie, including his relationship with Magneto.

9 Sabertooth Has Only Had One Film To Truly Shine

Victor 'Sabertooth' Creed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Victor 'Sabertooth' Creed has appeared twice in the X-Men films but is treated so differently each time that most fans assume the two are separate characters. After appearing as a mindless brute in X-Men, he appears as one of the most prominent characters in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as Logan's half-brother and nemesis.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a widely-mocked film, but Liev Schreiber's take on the character is well-liked to this day. His cunning villainy, odd charisma, and complex relationship with Logan all make for an interesting watch. Another look at Sabertooth perhaps reacting to Wolverine's death in Logan could make for a very compelling film.

8 Mystique Needs A Better Ending

Raven 'Mystique' Darkholme in her natural form X-Men movies

Raven 'Mystique' Darkholme appears as an antagonist throughout the first X-Men trilogy before becoming a major character in First Class. She is a close friend to both Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. A major thrust of the prequel films is her emotional connection to both men, as is her struggles with villainy and heroism.

However, Mystique has a very disappointing ending in Dark Phoenix. After she is relegated to the background for much of the film, Jean Grey kills her in an act that the movie uses to galvanize the male characters. Many fans want Mystique to have a better send-off, and a solo film focusing on her character development would be a much more fitting and dignified dénouement.

7 Storm Never Quite Gets Enough Attention

Halle Berry as Storm in the X-Men movies

Although she's a major figure at Xavier's School and a member of the team first introduced in 2000's X-Men, Ororo 'Storm' Munroe is more of a side character than her contemporaries. She receives less focus in the original films than Logan, Jean Grey, or Xavier. In the alternate timeline, she is overshadowed by Magneto, Mystique, and many others.

Despite this, Storm has plenty of potential. She is one of the most powerful figures in the films with interesting and visually-appealing powers. More than that, with her hugely-beneficial abilities, she has a different relationship to her mutation than characters like Rogue, as shown in The Last Stand. There is plenty to showcase in Storm's solo film, and it could give her the spotlight she deserves.

6 Rogue Has A Major Fall From Prominence

Anna Paquin as Rogue in the X-Men movies

Anna Marie, better known as Rogue, is a major character in X-Men. Hunting her is a major part of Magneto's plan, and Logan is drawn into the film's events when he attempts to protect her. While she does reappear after X-Men, she never has quite the same level of prominence, often falling into student drama rather than the films' action.

This is a disappointment for fans of Rogue, and for those who think she has plenty to offer. The tragic effects of her life-stealing abilities are explored in the films, but there is still plenty of fodder for a solo film. In addition, her mixed opinion of mutation and desire for a cure could make her solo film stand out from much of the rest of the series.

5 Iceman's Character Development Deserves A Capstone

Bobby 'Iceman' Drake is present throughout most of the X-Men franchise, but only ever holds particular prominence in The Last Stand and in the 'Rogue Cut' of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Initially a student of Xavier's school, Iceman's skill and repeated demonstrations of loyalty earn him a place as a fully-fledged team member.

The character undergoes constant growth throughout the films, becoming more mature and more capable with his powers. However, there is no pay-off to this progression and no finale to show just how far Iceman has come. As much as Logan puts a cap on Wolverine's development and character, Iceman's character development deserves the same.

4 Negasonic Teenage Warhead Has Main Character Potential

Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool 2

In the Deadpool subseries to the X-Men franchise, Negasonic is one of the most prominent secondary characters. A protégé of Colossus, Negasonic is a fledgling member of the team who ends up having to help Wade Wilson several times, despite her general contempt for him.

However, Negasonic has only ever been a secondary character. With an interesting powerset and a largely-unexplored personality and backstory, the character has real potential. In particular, a solo film could explore more than just her deadpan and unimpressed responses, showing audiences what she actually cares about.

3 Kitty Pryde's Powers Scream For More Exploration

Kitty Pryde only makes prominent appearances in The Last Stand and First Class but makes a strong showing in both. Whether it's going up against the Juggernaut with her wall-phasing or using her powers to send mutants back in time to save the world, she makes huge contributions.

The character herself is well-liked, in part due to Elliot Page's performance. A solo film exploring the consequences of her powers, particularly the time travel aspect of them, could make for a unique experience amongst X-Men movies. With alternate timelines in play, she could have a self-contained film with ease and without affecting any others.

2 Magneto Can More Than Carry A Film

Erik Lehnsherr Magneto standing in front of the White House bunker in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Despite being one of the most frequent villains in the films, Erik 'Magneto' Lehnsherr is also unquestionably one of the main characters. The relationship between him and Professor X is one of the key underpinnings of the franchise, and he is shown to be a sympathetic, engaging character every time he's on-screen.

Despite this, and despite the vast amount of exploration his character gets, Magneto has never had a solo film. A planned X-Men Origins: Magneto was canceled after Origins: Wolverine's failure. Exploring more of Magneto's youth, either before First Class or between films, has enough potential for a film trilogy. Michael Fassbender's performance could make anything involving the character compelling.

1 Laura Could Be A Continuation Of Logan

Laura during the final forest fight in Logan movie

The plot of Logan focuses on the titular character attempting to protect Laura, an artificial mutant who is genetically his daughter. She is a loose adaptation of Laura 'X-23' Kinney from the comic books, and major parts of the film are her complex relationship with Logan and her slowly learning more about the world.

Laura's story is left wide open after she flees to Canada at the end of Logan. Whether she gets a standalone film focusing on her struggles adjusting, or a more action-packed piece focusing on Logan's legacy, Laura is begging for a standalone film. Particularly with Dafne Keen's acclaimed performance, audiences want to see more of her.
