The following contains spoilers for Sins of Sinister #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

When fans think about the best villains in the Marvel Universe, names like Magneto, Doctor Doom, Galactus and Kingpin come to mind. However, none of them have ever fully succeeded in world domination. Even Apocalypse, who created his own Age of Apocalypse and seemingly succeeded in ruling the world, was only able to do so because of the lack of heroes at the time. Nevertheless, among these names, Mister Sinister was never high on the list, but that could finally change as he may have done the impossible.

Sins of Sinister #1 (by Kieron Gillen, illustrated by Lucas Werneck, Bryan Valenza and VC's Clayton Cowles) sets forth a plan that was in the making for some time as Mister Sinister used a host of Moira MacTaggert clones to consistently resurrect himself after failed attempts to kill the Quiet Council's strongest members. Eventually, he succeeded and replaced most of the council with evil clones to do his bidding.

Mister Sinister Succeeded In Eliminating All Threats

A self-satisfied Mister Sinister in Marvel Comics

Killing certain members of the Quiet Council was only the start of Mister Sinister's grand restructuring of the world. Once he had the likes of Professor X, Emma Frost and Hope Summers under his thumb, it was simply a matter of getting the power of resurrection out into the world. In doing so, those who accepted were given an X-Gene that activated upon resurrection, turning the body into a minion of Sinister. But this was only one phase of his plan.

Sinister had no issues taking over the world's leaders. Even Captain America became one of Sinister's pawns and antagonistic characters like Doctor Doom and Namor, who caught on and planned an uprising, were quickly killed and replaced. For all intents and purposes, Sinister had seemingly thought of everything and had hybrid mutants handle the grunt work for anything he overlooked. However, he still couldn't account for everything, including his hubris.

Mister Sinister Failed To Account For the Element Of Surprise

Mister Sinister

Mister Sinister is unique as it is his mind that grants him mutant abilities. As a result, his God complex and ability to genetically modify and create his own mutants made him think he was better than everyone else. This was exacerbated the moment he took over the Quiet Council and believed that he had already succeeded in his scheme. However, this was far from the case. While his success was swift, the goal of maintaining it never crossed his mind, and the survival of Storm, Mystique and Destiny have proven that there are already forces working against him.

With his lab taken, likely by the trio, Sinister has made a crucial mistake in believing he was infallible. In reality, he was just as flawed as the mutants he overpowered, and now his hubris could lead to his defeat. While other villains failed in their attempts at world domination, it was mainly due to being outsmarted. But in Sins of Sinister, it is arrogance that has led to Sinister's clones thinking independently, leaving him stuck in a world where he will likely face an embarrassing defeat.
