WARNING: The following contains spoilers for S.W.O.R.D. #6 by Al Ewing, Valerio Schiti, Marte Gracia & VC's Ariana Maher, along with recent issues of Venom and Guardians of the Galaxy, on sale now.

For a few years in recent history, the X-Men were relegated to the periphery of the Marvel Universe. Ever since the rise of Krakoa, however, Marvel's Mutants have been drawn back into the limelight. If recent events are any indication, it appears that the X-Men are both figuratively and literally the center of the universe once again.

Outside of the main-line of X-Men titles, Marvel's Mutants have made some surprising guest appearances. In Venom #35, by Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, Kev Walker, Danilo S. Beyruth, Ron Lim, Guiu Vilanova, Gerardo Sandoval and Mark Bagley, Eddie Brock visited Krakoa's Quiet Council asking for help.

Considering the fact that Eddie also visited the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy at the same time, this moment places Krakoa at the top of Marvel's most important and powerful institutions. Moreover, Marvel's Mutants played a big role in the recent Marvel's Voices: Pride special, which featured a number of mutant characters in the forefront.

Abagail Brand Declares Mars the Capitol of the Solar System in SWORD #6

Prominent mutants such as Iceman, Northstar, and Mystique were given important stories in this special. On top of everything else, a new mutant named Somnus was introduced. This all goes to demonstrate the vital role that the X-Men have been playing in the broader Marvel Universe recently.

The X-Men have also become the center of the Marvel Universe in a more literal sense. Planet-Size X-Men #1, by Gerry Duggan and Pepe Larraz, saw Omega-Level mutants terraforming Mars for the mutants of Arakko, another mutant nation. More importantly, Mars was claimed as the new capitol of the solar system, quite literally making mutants the center of the universe.

S.W.O.R.D. #6 expanded upon this idea by making Storm, a veteran X-Man, the regent of Mars and representative of the solar system. Additionally, with the miraculous creation of Mysterium, the mutants provided the rest of the galaxy a means to fix their recent economic crisis.

Marvel's Mutants have essentially taken their newfound power on Earth to a cosmic level, making themselves a force to be reckoned with in the overall Marvel universe, as demonstrated in Guardians of the Galaxy #15, by Al Ewing and Juan Frigeri.

X-Men Hellfire Gala Storm SWORD 1

In the issue, two of the Guardians discuss how the mutants have dealt with major intergalactic problems. The X-Men have recently gained control of the Brood, ended the Snarkwar and saved the Shi'ar throne. In addition, S.W.O.R.D. and the mutant Cable are slated to play important roles in the upcoming "Last Annihilation" storyline. Looking at everything they've done, it seems that Marvel's Mutants have become a serious cosmic force in the Marvel Universe.

All of these recent events show how far the X-Men have come since 2019's monumental House of X series, by Jonathan Hickman and Pepe Larraz. The mutants are now thriving on Earth and throughout the cosmos, thanks to all of their recent achievements. Ever since Krakoa was formed, it seems that mutants have continued to make progress in the world.

Within the Marvel Universe, there are certainly reservations around mutantkind's latest moves. Terraforming Mars, in particular, has led to quite a few mixed reactions. Despite this controversy, there's no denying that mutants are enjoying a more prominent role in the Marvel Universe than ever before.

Marvel's mutants have evolved to a place where they are no longer desperately cowering in fear of humans. Instead, events like the Hellfire Gala show how far the X-Men have come. Going forward, it's hard to imagine how much more power Marvel's Mutants will garner. For now, at least, it's plain to see that the X-Men have become quite possibly the biggest focus in the Marvel Universe.
