Family is a hard concept to define. It could signify bonds of blood, of biological links between a child and its parents. However, it is much more complicated than that. Family is an emotional bond, that is created through the building of a relationship, or in some instances, not forming one at all.

Once you add alternate realities, intergalactic forces, and clones into the mix, the issue begins to get even more complicated. All you need are god-like powers and a few evil parents, and you have a recipe for disaster. That is even before we begin to speak about opposing ideologies and sibling rivalry.

10 House of Magneto

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver

Undoubtedly, the most powerful and influential of all the mutant families is the offspring of Magneto. His first two children were Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, though they did not at first know this. They would join him in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants but later left to become members of The Avengers.

If a superspeed son and reality-warping daughter were not enough, it was later revealed that the mutant Polaris was Magento's heir as well. This put two mutants in the family that both had one of the most dangerous powers ever to exist. Though the family is seldom seen together, when they do meet, the outcome is never good.

9 The Summers

Cyclops and Havok Summers Brothers

The Summers family has a long, rich history that often crosses over with the Greys. Their father is Corsair, the leader of the Starjammers. Though Corsair himself is not a mutant, his three sons are.

Scott is the long term leader of the X-Men, known as Cyclops. His brother, Alex, is known as Havok. Both brothers can fire concussive energy blasts, from either their chest or eyes. Finally, the third brother, Gabriel, is known as Vulcan. For a long time, the third Summers brother's identity was shrouded in mystery. It was even believed to be Gambit for a long time.

8 The Greys

When we look at the Grey family history, things really start to get murky. This is because, for a lot of her life, Jean Grey had a clone that lived with her husband and gave him a child. That child would later become Cable.

Jean herself has many children, though usually from alternate timelines and futures. Rachel Grey-Summers is her daughter from a future timeline. She also has a son, Nathaniel Grey, commonly known as X-Man, though he is also from an alternate reality. In one future timeline, Rachel Grey and Franklin Richards even had a child. This makes Jean Grey one of the few mutant grandmothers.

7 The Rasputins

colossus and magik

Of all the families in the Marvel universe, none have seemed so disparate as the Rasputins. Piotr, the middle of the three children, is known as the X-Man Colossus. When he was summoned to assist Professor Xavier in the second team of X-Men, he left his family behind in Russia.

He would soon be joined by his younger sister, Illyana. Illyana would join the team of New Mutants as Magik, though she would be a distant, aloof child. Both of them would face constant harassment by their older brother, Mikhail. A cosmonaut who was sent on a suicide mission to space, he has been a constant thorn in the side of the X-Men.

6 The Guthries

Cannonball Free-Falling With His Child Strapped To His Chest

The Guthries are a large family, numbering ten children at the last count. Though not all of them are mutants, many of them have attended Professors Xavier's school. The first of these was Samuel, the mutant known as Cannonball. Sam would soon be followed by his sister Paige.

Paige owns one of the most disgusting powers in the world of mutants, and is able to remove her skin to reveal new states and layers of matter underneath. Many of their other siblings were either human or depowered after the events of M-Day. The most tragic of these was their brother Jay, who was assassinated by William Stryker.

5 Xavier Dynasty

Professor Xavier and Juggernaut

No family unit is going to bode well when one twin executes the other in the womb. That is exactly what Professor Charles Xavier did, sensing the inherent evil in his sibling. She would later return to plague him as Cassandra Nova. If this was not enough, Charles Xavier's stepbrother would be X-Men's enemy, Juggernaut. Although they have been on the safe side, sibling rivalry often puts them at loggerheads.

To really put the icing on the cake, Professor Xaviers son is Legion. Legion is an extremely powerful reality-altering mutant. He suffers from disassociative identity disorder and struggles to manage his own sanity, let alone his powers.

4 The Braddocks

Psylocke and captain britain

Although there are three Braddock siblings, only two of them are mutants. Brian Braddock, also known as Captain Britain, gained his powers from an ancient relic known as the Amulet of Right. However, his wife Meggan is a mutant with shapeshifting powers. The least famous of the siblings is Jamie Braddock. He is the elder brother of the twins and struggles to keep a grip on his reality-bending powers.

The final sibling, and arguably the most important, is the X-Man Psylocke. Originally, she entered the comics as a timid, pink-haired telepath who fired a butterfly-shaped psionic blast from her head. In true X-Men fashion, it was not long before she had her body swapped with that of a ninja assassin. After this, she was one of the best hand-to-hand combatants they have ever known.

3 The Cassidy Clan

Banshee and siryn

Many fans believe Jean Grey to be the X-Men's master in rising from the dead. However, that accolade should go to Sean Cassidy, one of the second team of X-Men. To date, he has died and risen from the ashes three times.

Both he and his daughter, Theresa, have the ability to create a sonic scream. This gives them a  number of sound-based powers, including shields, sonar, and the ability to fly. As Banshee and Siryn, they were recently reunited on the island nation of Krakoa, though how long he will stay alive for this time is a guessing game.

2 The Darkholmes

mystique and rogue

Mystique is a master manipulator who has lived for over 100 years. Despite her often ruthless ways, she often displays extreme warmth. This is often directed to those she considers family. To date, she has two known biological children and one adopted child.

Her adopted child was the mutant known as Rogue, whom she brought into her Brotherhood. She once had a relationship with the demon, Azazel, and their offspring was the X-Man Nightcrawler. If that was not complicated enough, her affair with Sabretooth bore a child. He grew up to be the anti-mutant campaigner Graydon Creed.

1 The Howlet Legacy

wolverine vs daken from Marvel Comics

Wolverine could arguably have the most children of any superhero in existence. To date, he has over 16 known children. The sad fact is that you would be hard-pressed to find many that would nominate him for a father of the year award. This is a good guy who once drowned his own son, Daken, in a puddle.

One of his other fatherly triumphs was X-23. After a hard life working on the streets and being forced to be an assassin, she thought she had found redemption with the X-Men. That was until her father sent her out to do exactly the same thing in his new X-Force squad.
