WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Marauders #8 by Gerry Duggan, Stefano Caselli, Edgar Delgado, VC's Cory Petit and Tom Muller, on sale now.

Things took a dark turn for the X-Men and Kate Pryde in Marauders #6. At the start of the series, Kitty had been chosen to be the Hellfire Trading Company's Red Queen, an equal member and co-leader alongside Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost. However, Shaw — in his never-ending quest for control and power — hatched a scheme to get rid of Kate. After revealing his hand, he trapped Shadowcat in Krakoan vines and her trusty pet dragon Lockheed in a net, and dropped both to the bottom of the ocean, leaving them to drown.

The fate of both characters was put in question, but Marvel fans started to fear the worst when Marauders #7 ended with a pair of Madripoor villagers fishing Lockheed out of the water. There, he appeared lifeless and we had to consider the possibility of saying goodbye to the fan-favorite purple alien dragon.

But now, we can all relax and put our pitchforks down because, in Marauders #8, Lockheed is confirmed to be alive.

After falling in the water in Marauders #6, Kitty Pryde was not seen in issue #7. Her absence was noted by other members of her team, but it didn't occur to anyone that she or her pet sidekick were in any sort of trouble. After all, Kitty's situation is different than any other mutant: she is the only one unable to gain access to the island nation of Krakoa through its portals. Somehow, the portals remain closed for her. And this, in turn, excludes her from the Resurrection Protocols, a safeguard that allows Charles Xavier the ability to resuscitate any fallen mutant who calls Krakoa home.

Dead Lockheed

Then, in Marauders #7, Lockheed was fished out of the water and we had every reason to believe he and Kitty were in fact dead. What's more, a recent teaser for the comic series seemed to enforce the idea that Shadowcat's death is permanent. As tragic as that is, this all contributed to have us believe we had also lost the adorable Lockheed, a creature as precious to X-Men fans as Baby Yoda.

Thankfully, the final page of Marauders #8 reveals that isn't the case. There, we see Lockheed still in the care of the villagers who fished him out of the water. The little dragon is incredibly weak, but the woman is still able to feed him. Better yet, he even breathes a little flame, making it clear that there is still life in the creature.

Crisis averted, Lockheed is alive!

For the time being, Lockheed is the only one who knows that it was Sebastian Shaw who killed Shadowcat, and hopefully he will be able to relay that information in some manner or another before the villain gets what he wants.

Luckily, this might also signal hope for Kate herself. We thought Lockheed was dead, but it turns out he's alive. Who's to say the case isn't the same for the Red Queen?
