WARNING: The following contains spoilers for X-Force #22, on sale now

The X-Men have been finding themselves in serious danger as they build to Inferno, with their enemies rallying against them and even some of their allies growing wary of them. But there might be some distinct friends to Krakoa left in the world.

Wolverine and Krakoa may have just helped convince Man-Slaughter to be an ally to the mutant-nation in X-Force #22 by Benjamin Percy, Robert Gill, Guru-eFX, and VC's Joe Caramagna -- which could be a major boon for the island considering the increasing number of Teleflornics out there.

Man-Slaughter X-Force

X-Force has increasingly found itself contending with all sorts of threats to the island nation of Krakoa, largely connected to nefarious forces like the mutant-hating organization XENO. One of the most consistent conflicts has proven to be a series of threats connected to Teleflornics developments -- an advancement of super science that allows for the control and conversion of plant life into new human/plant hybrid forms. The latest batch has been utilized across the globe to single out allies of the mutant race, zeroing in on vulnerable targets for blackmail or conviction. X-Force's research has found a link between this new strain and Man-Slaughter, a Man-Thing-like survivor of the Weapon Plus program.

Hunting him down, X-Force convinces Man-Slaughter (after a brief fight) to return to Krakoa with them so they can investigate further. Beast is able to determine that Man-Slaughter and others like him have the ability to cut off parts of themselves to create new, smaller life-forms that can then carry out the orders of the original host -- similar to what Doctor Bloodroot, the creator of Man-Slaughter and a new ally to XENO, has been doing in a bid to strike at the mutant population.

Man-Slaughter isn't sold on working with X-Force (especially after Beast callously cuts off his fingers as proof of his development), but a silent bonding moment with Krakoa allows Man-Slaughter to locate Bloodroot and discover the truth about his fury -- namely, that his wife who overdosed on Krakoa drugs had actually been given the drugs by XENO in an attempt to foster an ally out of a vengeful Bloodroot. Alongside Wolverine and Dominio, Man-Slaughter confronts his former creator and defeats him -- admitting that he's trying to overcome his rage at his creator and find "wisdom in the slow, indifferent mulch and bloom of the earth." Bringing Man-Slaughter back to the Pacific Northwest home he'd made for himself, Wolverine ends up sharing some advice with his fellow Weapon Plus survivor.

It's notable that Wolverine actually empathizes with Man-Slaughter and tries to offer his help and support. In response, Man-Slaughter walks back into the forest, telling Wolverine he's glad he found his home -- and now, they know where to find each other if they need to. Man-Slaughter leaving Krakoa on such seemingly good terms is a potentially major win for Krakoa. Beast has already been experimenting with Teleflornics, with their attempt to utilize them for espionage purposes almost causing an international incident at the Hellfire Gala. He even wants to continue his experimentation, this time with Black Tom. Having someone like Man-Slaughter in their corner could give them a bit of help if those experiments ever get out of control.

Likewise, it seems that Krakoa and Wolverine found a place of understanding with Man-Slaughter, proving to him that they can still be heroes -- which isn't a unanimous view from the perspective of Marvel's other heroes. It's also a worthy ally in case XENO attempts a similar attack. Their Teleflornic assault on Krakoa was only halted by the successful defeat of Bloodrood, and it's likely they'll try to adapt from this defeat. Having Man-Slaughter as an ally could give Krakoa an edge if a follow-up attack were to occur. With Krakoa in need of as many allies as it can get, it's promising to see that Man-Slaughter is at least on good terms with the mutant nation, especially going forward.
