X-Men: Dark Phoenix's Kinberg Still Set to Write a Star Wars Movie

Longtime X-Men franchise producer and Dark Phoenix writer/director Simon Kinberg is still supposed to write a Star Wars movie for Disney and Lucasfilm. The creative, also behind 2015's Fantastic Four reboot, has a significant history with Star Wars, having written, produced and co-created the animated series Star Wars Rebels for Disney XD.

According to Deadline, Kinberg is “currently writing a forthcoming Star Wars movie," though where the film fits into the franchise -- whether its an entry in a new trilogy, or a standalone "anthology" film, is unclear.

Kinberg was previously attached to write a Star Wars film directed by Fantastic Four's Josh Trank, though once Trank stepped away from the project, it was delayed until 2020. With no word on the film since 2015, the project was thought to star fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Whether Kinberg's writing a Boba Fett movie, a main entry in the episodic Star Wars saga or a Bib Fortuna solo film is uncertain -- but rest assured, he's still linked to the film franchise.
