WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Inferno #1, available now from Marvel Comics.

In the current era of Krakoa, there have been plenty of enemies to the mutant nation. But perhaps the most dangerous is Orchis, which seeks to unite the various enemies of the mutant race underneath one banner and bring about the end of a mutant future before it even comes to pass.

In Inferno #1 (by Jonathan Hickman, Valerio Schitti, David Curiel, and VC's Joe Sabino), Orchis is revealed to have survived multiple assaults by Krakoa off-panel -- and in the process, they've grown deadlier and gained a small supply of adamantium to utilize.

Since House of X, shadowy forces of humanity have been coming together out of a drive to defeat the X-Men and the mutant nation of Krakoa. The organization is comprised of various figures from organizations such as SHIELD, STRIKE, SWORD, ARMOR -- and even more villainous groups like HAMMER, AIM, and HYDRA. Although they may personally disagree with one another, they all share a common goal: to prevent mutants from becoming the dominant force on Earth. Retrofitting Tony Stark's Sol's Hammer into a base known as the Orchis Forge, the organization went to work creating a Master Mold -- but their plans were halted by the X-Men, who sacrificed a team of heroes in order to stop their plans.

Despite their defeat in House of X, Orchis has been quietly trying to reaffirm their power and influence on the future of humanity -- even eventually leading to the construction of Nimrod, which has been teased in multiple Marvel futures to be the ultimate mutant hunter. Since its successful activation,  Krakoa has been throwing everything they can at Orchis' solar base in futile bids to destroy Nimrod before it can advance even further.

There have been sixteen different attempts to bring down the Orchis Forge, and each has failed. Magneto attempted to push the Orchis Forge into the sun, but the engines on the station were too powerful and the strain eventually killed the Master of Magnetism. A mutant circuit was then attempted to amplify his powers and draw the Forge into the sun from the other end -- but the Dyson Engines still proved too powerful. An attempt by X-Force to hack the station failed, and attempts to utilize outside elements -- such as a swarm of Brood drones or hiring Otherworld assassins -- were equally ineffective.

Six direct attacks on the base have been made, with their final result unknown to Krakoa. This is likely because the mutants are killed before their memories of the assault can be recorded to Cerebro. However, this has given Orchis plenty of practice killing the mutants when they attack, allowing them to relatively easily contend with the latest assault in a matter of minutes. Notably, they've also been keeping the bodies of those they defeat. This includes Wolverine, who has been reduced to his adamantium skeleton each time by Nimrod. This quietly gives Orchis a deep well of the unbreakable metal to use in their experiments, which could ultimately lead to an even more powerful body for Nimrod.

All of this bodes poorly for the X-Men, as each attempt has only emboldened their enemies more and more. It's only a matter of time before Orchis moves onto the offensive, and with their reserves, their armory, and their sheer depth of knowledge when it comes to their enemies, they are sure to have an advantage in a full-scale conflict with Krakoa.
