38 years after the seminal X-Men tale was first published in 1982's Marvel Graphic Novel #5, writer Chris Claremont and artist Brent Anderson are reuniting to craft an extended edition of "God Loves, Man Kills."

X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills Extended Cut is slated to launch this April from Marvel Comics. The two-part limited series retells and expands upon the iconic comic book, using a brand-new, present-day X-Men story as a framing device.

The original "God Loves, Man Kills" is considered to be one of the most pivotal tales in the long history of Marvel's mutants. The comic marked the very first time the heroic X-Men were forced to join forces with the villainous Magneto. They were united by a common enemy: William Stryker, a televangelist using fundamentalist rhetoric to rally the public against mutantkind -- with deadly results. Claremont and Anderson's text has gone on to inform numerous other X-Men stories, including the 2003 film X2: X-Men United.

Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Brent Anderson with a main cover by Anderson and a variant by Salvador Larroca, X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills Extended Cut #1 is slated to go on sale this April from Marvel Comics. The solicitation information can be found below.
