New Regency and Ubisoft have recruited X-Men: First Class and Up in the Air screenwriter Sheldon Turner to take a pass at the script for Splinter Cell, Deadline reports.

Based on the hit video-game franchise endorsed by author Tom Clancy -- his name appears in the title of each installment -- Splinter Cell is directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow), with Tom Hardy attached to star.

Turner also wrote the script for Everest at Sony, which was also supposed to be directed by Liman with Hardy starring. Production on that film hit the pause button when Universal Pictures beat them to the mountain with another project of the same name.

In the video games, players are Sam Fisher, a black ops master who goes on a variety of missions that utilize his spy skills. Hardy will play Fisher in the film, but no other details are known.
