X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern, Scott Pilgrim: Aug 5th Comic Reel

Producer Tarquin Pack tells MovieWeb that Aaron Johnson will not be in the film. “Don’t believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron’s kind of busy, yeah,” says Pack. They go on to discuss director Matthew Vaughn’s approach to the film. “He has a way of authoring movies, like you see in ‘Layer Cake’, ‘Stardust’ and ‘Kick-Ass’, that nuanced outlook will be in ‘X-Men’ because that’s just the way he is as a director. That’s just the way he works. I think all of the movies he’s done, where you expect him to turn right, he turns left. That’s why Fox asked him to do an ‘X-Men’ movie and, even though it’s a big, franchise American movie, and you might think he’ll be turning right like everyone else would, we’ll still be turning left.”

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

Pietro Filipponi from Comic Book Movie has learned Nick Jandi will play Hal’s younger brother Jim and Dylan James will play Hal’s nephew Jason. He also hears word of a Battle for Oa.

Here at CBR, we have an interview with evil exes #1 and #3, Satya Bhabha and Brandon Routh.Asked about the working on another special effects film, Routh joked, “Learning to play the bass is easier than learning to fly.” He went on to say. “Although, I was strapped to a guitar and in wires a couple of times. Doing that at the same time was strange. But it was for a day, maybe, and not four or five months

DJ Caruso tells MTV News he is “loosely attached” to the film. “I felt you had to make this film as a trilogy,” says the director. New Line, in charge of the production, would like to see the book condensed to a single film. According to Caruso, they have taken four cracks at the script.

Our pals at Spinoff Online had the teaser for the film that was screened at Comic-Con. I use the past tense because the video was pulled from YouTube. According to Spinoff, the video came from Imaginary Forces, the company that actually cut the trailer for Marvel. Our pals did transcribe the entire Nick Fury narration: “And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when earth’s mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat…to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand. On that day, The Avengers were born.”

Release date: May 4th, 2012

Pajiba hears tell of Quentin Tarantino taking on the film, which has been rumored to be a project for David Slade and Sam Raimi. Of course, they did put a giant grain of salt tag in the article. MTV News called Tarantino’s rep, who said, “There is no truth to this story.”

Release date: TBA

Here at CBR, we have a look at the press conference the cast and director Zach Snyder held at Comic-Con following their Hall H appearance. “Yeah, but to her credit, every young actor that starts out has something to break out of as they get older,” said Jenna Malone when co-star Vanessa Hudgens was asked about her transition out of teen fare like “High School Musical.”

Release date: March 25th, 2011

According to MTV News, Paul Dini has joined the writing staff of the upcoming “Spider-Man” cartoon. “There’s going to be a lot of guest-star action, and there’s going to be a redefinition of Peter Parker within the Spider-Man world. We’re going to change a few things – nothing too dramatically, but you look at the Spider-Man concept from the early ’60s and you take a look at where teens are now, and you realize you can’t really go back and redo what was done so well in the comics,” says Dini of the project.

Release date: Fall 2011

Kryptonsite reports Sahar Biniaz and Bradley Stryker have been cast as Shayera Hall and Deadshot, respectively. Nice to see Deadshot’s profile is rising.

Returns: September 24th, 2010

While I might be in a secure location, I still have access to the Internet and HGTV so I can watch “Holmes on Homes.” I’ll be on way home tomorrow, but should be able to give you your Friday Comic Reel. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take cit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the weekend.
