X-Men actor Famke Janssen has expressed an interest in reprising her role as Jean Grey to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Bryan Singer's X-Men celebrating its 20th anniversary, there's been a lot of talk about the legacy of the 2000 movie. While the X-Men franchise is currently up in the air following the poor box office performance of Dark Phoenix, Kevin Feige has promised the X-Men are coming to the MCU. There are questions, though, over whether the franchise will start from scratch or if any of the old actors could suit up again.

When The Observer asked if she'd play Jean again, Janssen said, "I think the question is more if they would have any interest in bringing me back." Discussing where the series last left her portrayal of Jean, Janssen added, "With Days of Future Past, there was a surprise way of reintroducing certain characters that had been killed off. In some people’s cases, it was to bring them back as well as the younger versions of their characters. I’d be curious to see what happens [with Marvel Films]. But, yes, I would be very open to it.”

In 2017, Janssen claimed she was done playing Jean and reiterated that she'd left the role behind with her X-Men: Days of Future Past cameo. However, the star had a change of heart in 2019 when asked if she'd play Jean again in response to Dark Phoenix's negative reception and confessed, "If someone asks me, I might consider it."

Despite disappointment surrounding Dark Phoenix, Janssen could have some competition on her hands thanks to lead actor Sophie Turner throwing her hat in the ring to play Jean in the MCU. The Game of Thrones star portrayed a younger Jean in X-Men: Apocalypse and took a much larger role in Simon Kinberg's concluding chapter.

Janssen's words come after costar James Marsden said he would love to reprise his role as Cyclops. X-Men legacy actors Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman, however, have doubled down on claims that they're done following Logan. Only recently, Kinberg said he'd like to direct an X-Men movie for the MCU and championed the idea of bringing Janssen back to retell the acclaimed "Dark Phoenix Saga."As it stands, there are plenty of former X-Men actors who've put themselves forward, but no sign of what Feige and company are actually planning for the team of heroic mutants.
