A new report suggests Marvel Comics' shape-shifting alien Skrulls will appear in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Jeremy Conrad of Manabyte attributes the information to an unnamed "long-time source," who describes the upcoming Fox sequel as "better than Apocalypse but not as good as Days of Future Past." The source contends that writer/director Simon Kinberg's film is "also very serious with very little humor," but contends the franchise veteran "did a good job with it."

That may help to resolve the question of whether Jessica Chastain will play a Skrull in film. Her role was described as “an otherworldly shapeshifter who comes into contact with Phoenix,” which sounds similar to the classic Marvel Comics foes, who can assume the identities of their enemies.

There's been no official word as to whether the aliens will actually appear in the film. However, they are the primary antagonists in 2019's Captain Marvel, from Fox rival Marvel, and have been identified as one of those properties -- like, say, Quicksilver -- whose rights are shared by the two studios.
