Actor Jessica Chastain and director Simon Kinberg confirm reshoots have officially begun on Fox's X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Both Chastain and Kinberg posted on their Instagram accounts to honor the start of reshoots. While Kinberg revealed a chair with the name Jean Grey on the back — presumably for Sophie Turner's character — Chastain shared a video of herself and the director "back on set."
Despite earlier rumors of an extended schedule, reshoots on Dark Phoenix will take two and a half weeks. The additional photography is meant to polish the film, which will adapt Chris Claremont and John Byrne's classic "Dark Phoenix Saga."
Disney's recent purchase of key assets from 21st Century Fox means the X-Men and various other once unavailable characters could start appearing in films from Marvel Studios. Fans don't know what the Marvel Cinematic Universe plans on doing with the X-Men or the current roster of actors that play them, meaning Dark Phoenix could be one of the last movies with this iteration of Charles Xavier's gifted youngsters.
Written and directed by franchise veteran Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alexandra Ship as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
