New photos from the set of the 2018 sequel show Scott Summers actor Tye Sheridan sporting an updated visor whose ruby quartz lens blocks the mutants' destructive optic blasts, and undoubtedly protects him from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Sheridan wore both a visor and more traditional sunglasses in last year's X-Men: Apocalypse, so it's certainly possible he'll sport more than one look in Dark Phoenix.

Written and directed by longtime franchise producer Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will adapt the seminal 1980 Marvel Comics storyline “The Dark Phoenix Saga," in which Jean Grey is possessed and corrupted by the powerful cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force, in the process destroying an inhabited planet and placing entire galaxies at risk.

Principal photography of X-Men: Dark Phoenix is under way now in Montreal.

Opening Nov. 2, 2018, X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Alexandra Ship as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
