In the climax of X of Swords, Cyclops made a stand against the Quiet Council of Krakoa and did something that desperately needed to be done. Cyclops said he wasn't going to stand on the sidelines anymore, and he reformed the X-Men. In his conversation with the Quiet Council, Cyclops said they could govern all the island's mutants. However, Cyclops said that his X-Men would be the heroes that Krakoa and the rest of the Marvel Universe needed.

This all started with Cyclops and Jean Grey talking in Krakoa while staring out at the beautiful scenery that their safe and secure home had afforded them. Scott admitted that he never thought they would ever have their family together and safe after a lifetime of fighting against a world that hated and feared them. And now, Cyclops has reaffirmed his commitment to fighting to protect the dream of Krakoa as it stands, reasserting the X-Men's position as some of Marvel's premier heroes.

Jean Grey pointed out that people should expect nothing less than the X-Men jumping into battle when they have something to fight for like Krakoa. Jean's comments were a result of Cable calling out to his parents for help, telling them the mutants were losing badly in the tournament. With Cable possibly in trouble and the fact that the mutants were losing, with some already dead, Cyclops and Jean Grey determined it was time to rejoin the fight.

When Cyclops said that he was going to Otherworld no matter what, Jean Grey also quit the Quiet Council to go with him, and they brought back the X-Men as the heroes of Krakoa. This was something that Professor X and Magneto both expected, and both seemed proud to see Cyclops reassert himself as the X-Men's leader.

Since he grew up apart from his father and brothers, Cyclops has really only ever had one family: the X-Men. He lost his parents when he was a child and grew up in an orphanage before finding himself as the leader of the X-Men. However, Cyclops' life has been filled with an unusual amount of loss. From the deaths of Jean Grey to being forced to send his son Cable to grow up in a distant future and being responsible (alongside the Phoenix Force) for killing his father figure, Professor X and becoming the martyr for a domed mutant revolution, Cyclops has never had it easy.

However, all of these actions, good and bad, were ultimately motivated by Cyclops' desire to protect the people he loved. Cyclops has always been a fighter, and he has never let anyone stand in his way. In X of Swords, he stood up to the Quiet Council and made it clear that the X-Men would not remain silent, especially when the mutants of Krakoa needed their greatest leaders.
