Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz recently shared a much different design for the villain Apocalypse than was shown in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.

Marantz posted several images of his original design on Instagram, all of which showed Apocalypse in a sleek grey suit with the character's iconic tubes sprouting from the back. "One of my favorite unused concepts for X-Men: Apocalypse," Marantz said of the design. "Apocalypse is my favorite X-Men villains and to get a chance to work on him was really exciting."

Created by Louise Simonson and Jackson Guice, En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse made his first full comic appearance in 1986's X-Factor #6. The character has been a longtime villain of the X-Men and is often shown wearing a bulky grey/blue costume. Apocalypse's first live-action film appearance would occur in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, portrayed by Brendan Pedder. Oscar Isaac played the character in X-Men Apocalypse

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse was the ninth film in Fox's X-Men series and showed Charles Xavier's team of mutants going against Apocalypse. The film was met with many mixed reviews and currently has a 47% among critics and 65% among audience members on Rotten Tomatoes.
