Strength can be measured in many different ways, and can often be used to handily determine which superpowered character is more powerful than others. This can be especially useful when comparing related characters like some of the siblings in the X-Men.

Marvel's team of mutants has many familial connections on the team, but one of the most powerful brother-sister duos in the X-Men's world is the Rasputin siblings Piotr and Illyana, or Colossus and Magik as they are better known respectively. Today we are going to take a look at the different strengths of Colossus and Magik to determine which Rasputin is the strongest!

10 COLOSSUS: OLDER BROTHER

Ever since Piotr's first appearance in Giant-Size X-Men #1, Colossus has been shown as a protective big brother, as he first transformed into the armored Colossus in order to save young Illyana from a runaway tractor.

Colossus would continue to play the role of a protective older brother when Illyana became infected with the Legacy Virus, and Piotr chose to sacrifice himself in order to release the cure to the virus so he could save his young sister's life.

9 MAGIK: INDEPENDENT SISTER

While Illyana may have needed Colossus to protect her when she was young, after she spent years trapped in Limbo under the control of the demon Belasco, she returned as a teenager with immense power and an independent attitude.

As Magik, Illyana would work alongside the New Mutants and later the X-Men, though she would also become the ruler of the same realm she had been trapped in, proving she didn't need anyone's help anymore.

8 COLOSSUS: PHYSICAL STRENGTH

When looking at the base definition of the word strength, Colossus is physically the stronger Rasputin thanks to his mutant ability to transform his flesh into organic steel, which also greatly increases his strength.

Colossus is strong even in his human form, but once he's armored up he is capable of incredibly impressive feats of strength that include facing off with equally powerful characters like the Juggernaut and the Hulk.

7 MAGIK: MAGICAL ABILITY

After Illyana was kidnapped by the demon Belasco and raised for years in Limbo, a part of her soul was turned into a Bloodstone, unlocking the potential for increased magical ability and power that she developed through mystical training.

Illyana's magical ability is greatly increased in Limbo which she took over after defeating Belasco, though ongoing training with mystics like Doctor Strange has continued to increase her strength in magic.

6 COLOSSUS: NEAR INVULNERABILITY

Colossus' strength isn't just tied to his ability to lift heavy things, as his metallic armored form also protects Colossus from most threats with near invulnerability that allows him to withstand high impacts, pressures, and temperatures.

However, one of the drawbacks of his metal form is the fact that if he is injured, his metal form needs to be repaired before he is able to transform back into flesh and blood, and sometimes special devices or abilities are needed to repair his armored body.

5 MAGIK: TELEPORTATION

While Illyana uses many magical abilities, weapons and fighting styles as the X-Men's Magik, she comes from a powerful family of mutant siblings like Colossus and their older brother Mikhail, and her actual mutant ability is teleportation.

Illyana creates teleporting platforms she calls "stepping discs" that she can manipulate to transport herself or others across intergalactic distances, and she can even use them to travel through time, though she is still learning to control that aspect of her ability.

4 COLOSSUS: TRAINING

One of Colossus's many strengths is the years he has spent training alongside the X-Men, as he was one of Professor Xavier's new recruits when the original team went missing on the island of Krakoa.

Not only has he had more years in the Danger Room than most of the X-Men, but he has also further developed his skills alongside teams like Excalibur, X-Force, and even Magneto's Acolytes, making him an incredibly well-rounded warrior.

3 MAGIK: MYSTICAL ARMOR

We've discussed Magik's mutant stepping discs and her magical abilities, but Illyana also has a powerful transformative element to her powers that makes her potentially stronger than Colossus, though it also mirrors his own armor ability.

Illyana possesses the mystical Soulsword that generates powerful mystical armor that reflects her demonic Darkchylde form, which manifests when Illyana uses too much dark magic. Illyana's armor is even stronger in Limbo, like her magical abilities.

2 COLOSSUS: ARTISTIC STRENGTH

Not all strengths display themselves on the battlefield, and Piotr is as much a gifted artist as he is a battle-hardened member of the X-Men, though he doesn't devote as much time to his sketches and paintings as the Danger Room.

Following the X-Men's transformative walk through the Siege Perilous, an amnesiac Colossus earned some fame as an artist named Peter Nicholas, though he would eventually regain his memories and rejoin the X-Men, though he never lost his creative strengths.

1 MAGIK: GREAT CAPTAIN OF KRAKOA

With the "Dawn of X" relaunch of the X-titles, the mutant population has found a new home on Krakoa and a new ruling body in the form of the Quiet Council of Krakoa, which features some of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe.

While Illyana also works with her friends on the New Mutants, Magik is also one of the Great Captains of Krakoa alongside Cyclops, Bishop, and Gorgon, who lead the Krakoan mutants in battle/military situations.
