In November of 1982, Marvel Comics released Marvel Graphic Novel #5, which featured writer Chris Claremont and artist Brent Anderson's now-iconic X-Men story God Loves, Man Kills. To celebrate 50 years of Claremont's contributions to Marvel, the House of Ideas has enlisted Eisner Award-winning artist Marcos Martin to create a series of variant covers for the Dawn of X lineup paying tribute to the writer's seminal '80s mutant tale.

Slated to hit comic shops this March, Martin's variants recreate key moments from Claremont's God Loves, Man Kills -- which follows William Stryker, a televangelist who uses fundamentalist rhetoric to rally the public against mutants, with deadly results. The comic marked the first-ever team up between the X-Men and Magneto, as well as served as the inspiration for the 2003 film X2: X-Men United.
