X-Men Cast New & Old Reflects on Series Legacy Ahead of Dark Phoenix

To commemorate X-Men Day, Fox has released two video featurettes wherein the past and present casts of the long-running X-Men films reflect on the franchise's legacy.

2000's X-Men began principal photography exactly 20 years ago, with the film series spawning six main installments, three solo spinoffs starring Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and two solo spinoffs for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool. Dark Phoenix will mark the seventh main installment, while next year's The New Mutants serves as the franchise's latest spinoff film.

In addition to these the two retrospective promos, Fox released a new IMAX poster for Dark Phoenix teasing Jean Grey's full destructive potential. A cloud shaped like the fiery bird rises behind the young mutant.

The current iteration of the franchise will come to an end following the release of Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. Since the property was acquired by Disney and Marvel Studios, this X-Men Day is a chance for fans to revisit the original film series and its many memorable characters before it ends.

Directed and written by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Holt, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters and Jessica Chastain. The film arrives June 7.
