The Marvel Universe is full of powerful psychics, and many of them have been members of the X-Men at one point or another. Many Omega-Level Mutants have limitless telepathic powers, and there's always the potential more could reveal themselves. However, there's one potentially dangerous psychic who hasn't appeared in years, yet remains a potentially dangerous threat.

Introduced in 2002's Uncanny X-Men #411 by Chuck Austen and Ron Garney, Carter Ghazikhanian was a reoccurring minor character during Austen's run on the X-Men. However, his potential power -- and his final appearance's dark turn -- teased that he could become a serious threat if he were to return in the era of Krakoa.

X-Men Carter Psychic 3

Carter is the son of Annie Ghazikhanian -- a former nurse at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. Both debuted during writer Chuck Austen's much-maligned run on Uncanny X-Men. Born a mutant like his unnamed father, Carter possessed extraordinarily potent psychic abilities. Although his full potential was never fully realized due to his youth, he proved powerful enough to help draw the consciousness of Havok out of a fissure between realities and reinsert it within his body. Carter spent some time at the Xavier Institute as a young student, forging a close bond with Sammy Pare, better known as Juggernaut's unlikely ward Squidboy.

While developing a friendship with Northstar and finding a rival in Polaris, Annie eventually fell in love with Havok, which created a love triangle between him and a still-closeted Iceman. Part of this came as a result of Carter, who used his powers to meld Havok and Annie's dreams and allowed them to fall for one another. During his brief stint at the Xavier Institute, Carter was confronted with the Mutant X version of Havok, survived an encounter with the Exiles and tagged along for some missions that Havok and the rest of the team embarked on.

However, Annie eventually realized the Xavier Institute was too dangerous of a place for them, and left the school with Carter in tow, barely escaping an assault from a new incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Squidboy and several other mutants died during the attack, with Annie and Carter driving away just in time. But as they left, Carter spoke about an imaginary friend -- hinting that some unseen psionic force had taken an interest in the young man and was prepared to manipulate him.

Although Annie briefly reappeared alongside Iceman's other former love interests in an arc of Astonishing X-Men, Carter hasn't appeared since his mother took him away from the Xavier Institute. There's the possibility that he lost his powers during the events of House of M, but Carter has the same right to citizenship in Krakoa as any other mutant. He could even take part in the Crucible and be reborn with his powers restored if they were indeed taken away -- making him a potentially powerful wild card again. Carter's powers were enough to catch the full attention of Charles Xavier himself, suggesting Carter might be a potential powerhouse in the making, with his brief appearance in the alternate reality X-Men: The End proving strong enough to craft his own fake kingdom.

With that kind of power, the return of Carter could become a major point of contention for the mutants of Krakoa. His potential could make him a potent weapon for a more villainous psychic like Shadow King or Cassandra Nova to have taken an interest in, and it could turn him into a weapon against the ambitions of the X-Men. With the X-corner of the Marvel Universe bringing back plenty of obscure mutants from across the history of the Marvel Universe, the return of Carter could pose a genuine threat from one of the team's most maligned eras.
