Bryan Singer has long been credited with kicking off the modern superhero film boom after helming 2000's X-Men. However, he has gained notoriety for alleged sexual misconduct and unprofessionalism in recent years.

The Hollywood Reporter recently published a piece detailing the erratic behavior reportedly exhibited by Singer on the set of the first X-Men. THR explains that numerous men, some of whom were minors at the time, have alleged in published articles that Singer offered them auditions for the film in exchange for sexual favors. Singer did his then-boyfriend Adam Robitel in a small cameo in X-Men, though one of THR's on-set sources "disputed the idea the Robitel casting was anything but professional, noting that the two had been dating for three years at that point." Still, while the circumstances surrounding Robitel's casting were common in the '90s, that sort of thing is generally frowned upon today. Robitel has since gone on to helm the horror film Escape Room.

This is not the first time Singer has been accused of using his position to solicit sexual favors from younger men. On April 1997, two boys filed a civil lawsuit claiming that they were ordered to strip naked for a scene in Singer's film Apt Pupil. Singer and his friend Gary Goddard were also the subjects of a 2014 civil suit, where they were accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy after the premiere of Superman Returns.

The Atlantic ran a lengthy piece on Singer in 2018, detailing numerous accounts of misconduct that include the events listed here. Singer has denied all allegations leveled against him.
