WARNING: This article contains spoilers for X-Men Blue #32 by Cullen Bunn, Andrés Genolet, Matt Milla and VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

After being forced to take the lives of his mutant brothers possessed by the Mothervine virus, Magneto is out for vengeance and has his sights set on his former colleague, Emma Frost. Though Magneto originally aligned himself with the X-Men Blue team and behaved himself (for the most part), the White Queen has pushed the Master of Magnetism past his breaking point.

These events led to a showdown of epic proportions in X-Men Blue #32 when Magneto tracked down Emma Frost in Paris, France, with the X-Men caught in the middle. No matter who they choose to help, their choice is literally picking the lesser of two evils. And if all this drama wasn't already enough to fill an entire issue, there is the lingering threat of Extermination looming in the background.

Though the X-Men event has yet to begin, we've been treated to Extermination post-credits scenes across various X-Men titles the last month. However, what might have gone unnoticed were the Extermination seeds being planted in X-Men Blue by writer Cullen Bunn.

The X-Men Blue story arc "Cross Time Capers" featured the team traveling through the timestream using Magneto's time platform. This device remained dormant following the conclusion of the story, until Magneto found himself under attack from the Ultimate Universe Mauraders. Needing to flee, Magneto fired up the time platform and escaped. It was never revealed exactly where (or when) in time Magneto traveled to, but the betting odds are on it being the dark future of Extermination. In fact, we get even more clues in this latest issue, during a conversation between Magneto and Iceman.

"I wish you could know what I saw," Magneto says to Iceman in the heat of battle. What Magneto saw more than likely came during his journey to the Extermination future. Magneto also alludes to doing something while he was there -- it's only a question of whether this was a good or bad thing he did.

There is something else to consider when it comes to Iceman's future, and we already got some clues during the Extermination post-credits scenes. Out of the original X-Men (Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman and Angel), Iceman was the only one missing from the scenes. Did he split from his longtime friends and teammates, or did something sinister happen to him? And was Magneto involved somehow?

In the present day, the X-Men are able to safeguard Emma Frost from Magneto. Before they go their separate ways, Magneto once again references his use of the time platform when being assaulted by the White Queen. Something Magneto saw in the future has affected him in a major way -- as for what that something is, we're only left to wonder and speculate.

Perhaps what Magneto saw was the death and destruction of the mutant race that he so desperately wants to avoid. Upcoming issues for X-Men Blue will look to fill in the gaps of what transpired after Magneto activated his time platform while teasing a major turning point for the Master of Magnetism. Again, the covers show only Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel and Beast, with Iceman nowhere to be found. Regardless, whatever happens in the lead up to Extermination is enough to give Magneto pause -- and that is a truly scary thought.
