Marvel's recent teaser for X-Men Black didn't provide a whole lot of information, but the biggest takeaway was that whatever it was, Magneto would likely be front and center. Now, Marvel has officially announced that the Master of Magnetism will headline a one-shot under the X-Men Black banner, written by acclaimed X-Men scribe Chris Claremont and drawn by Dalibor Talajic.
The announcement was made during Marvel's X-Men panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, along with the following other villain-focused one-shots:
- Mojo #1 – Scott Auckerman / Nick Bradshaw
- Mystique #1 – Seanan McGuire / Marco Failla
- Juggernaut #1 – Robbie Thompson / Shawn Crystal
- Emma Frost #1 – Leah Williams / Chris Bachalo
At the panel, Marvel revealed that X-Men Black is actually an entire line of one-shot comics, rather than a single series, with each title headlined by a major mutant villain; each issue will feature backup stories focusing on Apocalypse written by Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson.
In recent issues of the soon-to-be-concluded X-Men Blue, writer Cullen Bunn has been slowly transitioning Magneto back to his villainous roots -- a side he had previously embraced the Uncanny X-Men series in which he put together a team of “outlaw” X-Men until becoming a mentor for the time-displaced original X-Men.
