Throughout their publication history, Marvel’s X-Men have come to face a number of unimaginable threats over the years. Between the likes of Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, and the Phoenix force, the X-Men have had no shortage of difficulties. However, as a team of mutants leading the fight against evil, there must of course, be evil to fight. As such, the antithesis to the X-Men is known as the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Like the X-Men, the Brotherhood is constantly undergoing changes in lineup, leadership, and motivations. However, some members have always proven to be more valuable to the team than others. To look back at some of the evilest mutants there are, here is our list of the 5 best members and the 5 worst members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

10 Juggernaut (Worst)

Juggernaut has had a lot to offer in X-Men books over the years. Though not the smartest of X-Men foes, Juggernaut’s reputation is brought about by his size and by the fact that he is virtually impossible to keep down.

During his time as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Juggernaut was actually on the side of good and operated as an undercover X-Man. Juggernaut would gather info on the Brotherhood and report back as discreetly as possible. Due to this, Juggernaut has to be one of the Brotherhoods worst members.

9 X-Man (Best)

Originally hailing from the Age of Apocalypse timeline, Nate Grey has proven to be one of the Brotherhood's strongest members. In the most recent run of Uncanny X-Men, Nate almost single-handedly eliminated an entire team of mutants who had assembled against him.

As a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Nate’s incredibly powerful telekinetic abilities would make him an incredibly valuable member. Though he wouldn’t be an official member for long, Nate’s principles often align with the Brotherhood’s own, making him an incredibly powerful foe to the X-Men.

8 Sabretooth (Worst)

A close up of sabretooth sneering

Sabretooth is a fairly consistent member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. However, his accomplishments as an Iron Fist and Wolverine villain rarely compare to his contributions to the Brotherhood. Sabretooth is normally a fairly big threat with his incredible strength, vicious fighting style, and healing factor.

Yet, he always seems to take a backseat as a member of the Brotherhood, never really accomplishing much aside from simply holding a presence on the team. Unfortunately, Sabretooth can easily be knocked down by a more powerful mutant and offers very little as a member of the Brotherhood.

7 Pyro (Best)

Over the years, Pyro has proven to be one of the more dedicated members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Likewise, with the ability to manipulate fire, he has also proven to be one of the deadlier members.

Pyro has been a part of several iterations of the Brotherhood, often following whomever the current leader is. Fortunately, Pyro’s desire to wreak havoc against those who wish harm on mutants is often stated, especially considering how he seems to be a part of the team as often as possible.

6 Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (Worst)

As the children of the founder of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, you would think that Wanda and Pietro Maximoff would be some of the team’s best members. While they certainly contributed from time to time, the two would also come to abandon the team and their father for the likes of the Avengers and the X-Men. Nowadays, the two often clash with their father and the rest of the Brotherhood.

As a result of their betrayal, it is easy to see how the two would turn out to be some of the worst members of the Brotherhood.

5 Toad (Best)

Toad X-Men

Toad may not look like much at first, but he has actually been one of the more valuable members of the Brotherhood throughout their history. Toad possesses an amphibious-like mutation that has changed his skin, allowed him to stick to most surfaces, and even given him an absurdly long tongue.

However, Toad, similarly to Pyro, has also been a part of almost every version of the Brotherhood. At one point, he even came to lead the team of evildoers. Toad’s dedication has proven time and again that he is loyal to the cause. Furthermore, his unique mutant abilities have made him incredibly valuable to the team over the years.

4 Rogue (Worst)

The 10 Strongest Female Superheroes, Ranked

Rogue was originally brought into the team by Mystique and Destiny, her adoptive parents. With her ability to absorb other people’s powers, Rogue actually proved to be quite a successful team member for the Brotherhood. However, like the Maximoff twins, Rogue would abandon the team in favor of the X-Men. Rogue’s betrayal wouldn’t have been such a big deal had she not gone on to be one of the X-Men’s most powerful, influential, and important members.

Rogue would become so integrated into her life as an X-Man that she proudly and undoubtedly stands against the Brotherhood whenever the two groups come into conflict with one another. As such, Rogue is one of the Brotherhood’s biggest losses.

3 Mystique (Best)

The mutant shapeshifter has been an on-and-off villain for the X-Men throughout most of her publication history. Yet, Mystique has still racked up quite a reputation as one of the Marvel Universe’s most deadly mutants.

In her time with the Brotherhood, Mystique's ability to transform herself into any other person made her immeasurably valuable, especially when combined with her unique skills as an assassin. Like Toad, Mystique would also go on to lead a version of the team, showing her dedication to the cause and her ability to make tough decisions.

2 Blob (Worst)

The Blob rages in Marvel's X-Men comics

Much like Sabretooth, Blob contributes very little to the Brotherhood in the grand scheme of things. Blob’s incredible size makes him practically immovable, yet also incredibly strong. However, several members of the X-Men have proven to be immensely stronger than Blob, meaning that his only value to the team is to literally just sit around.

Therefore, since Blob isn’t the smartest villain to say the least, he is practically worthless to the team in combat scenarios. Likewise, his size makes him significantly more noticeable and devalues him on stealth missions. Overall, Blob is just an all-around disappointment for the team.

1 Magneto (Best)

Of course, the best member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants has to be the team’s original founder, Magneto. Magneto has proven time and again to be the X-Men’s greatest adversary, despite constantly switching sides between good and evil. As a member of the Brotherhood, Magneto’s incredible abilities have made him an incredible threat.

His extreme motivations and beliefs also mean that he will accept massive loss of life. Magneto's own plots over the years have been some of the most destructive and devastating that any Marvel villain has to offer. Thankfully, most of them are successfully thwarted by the X-Men.
