WARNING: The following contains spoilers for X-Factor #10 by Leah Williams, David Baldeon, Israel Silva and VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Love has been blooming on Krakoa between a number of mutants, including two figures nominally connected through their bonds to Wolverine. But since working together on X-Factor, Logan's son Daken and his former teammate Aurora have found a surprisingly passionate love for one another. Daken and Aurora have officially made their relationship public at the Hellfire Gala and quietly revealed some deadly crimes they've recently committed to each other in X-Factor #10.

Although they may have found happiness together, Aurora and Daken may have brought serious consequences not just on themselves but on all of Krakoa.

Aurora has been confronting her darker side in X-Factor, which opened with an investigation into her mysterious demise in Washington. They eventually discovered that she'd been investigating an anti-mutant militant named Eddie and his hateful compatriots, which resulted in her murder and (as X-Factor investigated) his apparent accidental demise. Daken spent time asking her occasionally about the incident, while also openly flirting with the French-Canadian mutant. Eventually, following X-Factor's confrontation the Morrigan, the pair finally began a romance -- which has carried over to the events of the Hellfire Gala, where their relationship was highlighted to the assembled party when Wild Child -- who still has feelings for his former Alpha Flight teammate -- attacked Daken for being with Aurora.

Following that confrontation, Aurora and Daken ended up enjoying a dance and sharing a conversation -- where Daken revealed he'd discovered the truth about Aurora's trip to Washington: that Aurora had actually killed Eddie, and allowed herself to die before her memory was uploaded to Cerebro to cover it up. This means Aurora broke one of the defining laws of Krakoa -- to never kill a human -- which could be grounds for banishment into the heart of Krakoa. But Daken turns out to have no intention of revealing her crime. In fact, Wolverine's son reveals that after learning the truth, Daken hunted down Eddie's allies and slaughtered them -- breaking the same law multiple times over. Daken frames this act of vengeance as a romantic gesture, saying that if she's caught and goes down for her crime, so will he.

This actually seems to have worked, too -- as both Daken and Aurora begin to actively enjoy their part of the confrontation with Buck Thatcher, with Aurora openly terrifying the murderer by suggesting it would be justice to see him shot down by the police. Daken and Aurora leave the scene hand-in-hand, thoroughly enjoying the moment and comparing it to "playing with your food." While it's been a sweet development for both Aurora and Daken to find love on Krakoa, these revelations are also a stark reminder of the kind of people they used to be. Aurora's dissociative identity disorder has caused her and others plenty of pain over the years, and it wasn't long ago that Daken was a murderous enemy of his father and everything the X-Men stand for.

It's a somewhat frightening prospect to learn that both of them have quietly embraced these darker sides of themselves, and have found a source of empathy with someone else who can encourage these darker inclinations and impulses. On the bright side, both of them seem to have at least helped the other embrace the technically more noble directives of the X-Men and X-Factor over their darker choices in the past. But it's still a series of murders committed by mutants of Krakoa, which could land the pair of them in serious trouble if it's discovered. It could even -- along with the crimes committed by Selene and the apparent murder of the Scarlet Witch by Magneto -- help further push the rest of the world to see Krakoa as ruthless killers.
