Keep believing, Agent Doggett fans. The X-Files' 11th season may see the return of Robert Patrick's skeptical FBI agent.

Speaking to TVLine, series creator Chris Carter revealed that Patrick was originally set to appear last season.

“I actually wrote him into an episode,” Carter said. “But then I found out he wasn’t going to be available to us [because of Scorpion] so I had to write him out of the episode… Scorpion is his first priority.”

Thankfully, the sci-fi serial was renewed for an 11th season, meaning fans haven't seen the last of Scully, Mulder and possibly Doggett.

“That’s not to say you won’t see him this season," Carter said.

While Patrick currently stars in CBS' Scorpion, the actor has plenty of geek cred on his resume. Along with portraying John Doggett in the final two seasons of The X-Files' original 1993-2002 run, the actor most famously portrayed the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

After ending a seminal nine-season run in 2002, The X-Files returned with new episodes last year. The series' resurrection saw the return of most of the main characters, including Doggett's partner Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish).

The 10-episode 11th season of The X-Files will reunite creator Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi, plus William B. Davis, Annabeth Gish, Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell in 2018.
