WARNING: The following contains spoilers for X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #1, available now from Marvel.

The death of the Scarlet Witch is currently one of the most pressing matters to be dealt with on Krakoa. Her demise threatens to unravel much of the progress and many of the alliances Krakoa has made recently -- and it could all begin closer to home than anyone was hoping for.

Even early in the investigation over the fate of Wanda Maximoff featured in X-Men: The Trial Of Magneto #1 by Leah Williams, Lucas Werneck, Edgar Delgado, and VC's Clayton Cowles, members of X-Force and X-Factor are butting heads over how to proceed with the case -- which doesn't bode well for the future of Krakoa.

The Scarlet Witch's demise during the Hellfire Gala is one of the greatest threats to Krakoa yet, with the possibility to upend the alliances the mutant nation has fostered with the Kree/Skrull Empire and the rest of Earth's heroic community. The mutants of Krakoa are also still not sure about who exactly committed the crime (although evidence at the scene leads them to believe it's Magneto). To investigate, three of the primary groups on Krakoa -- the newly elected X-Men, the investigative X-Factor, and the secretive X-Force -- have all come together to offer their own expertise. But tensions are already rising amongst the groups. X-Factor is nominally the lead on the investigation, due to their typical roles as the ones who look into any mysterious mutant deaths.

However, Northstar sees the intervention of X-Force and the X-Men as "babysitters" on their assignment, prompting him to bicker with Domino and Wolverine over their inability to protect Wanda while providing security for the Gala. Meanwhile, the autopsy of Wanda Maximoff further aggravates these tensions. Beast and Sage offer their own views on the investigation -- to the annoyance of Prodigy, who notes that "forensic autopsies" aren't usually done in front of a crowd. Notably, Eye-Boy helps Prodigy examine the body and reveals to the collected mutants that his vision allows him to identify the magic in her blood and x-ray her with just a glance. Beast notes this is a remarkable addition to his powers -- which means Beast could potentially see Eye-Boy as a possible asset going forward.

Considering Beast has already used X-Force's authority to force other branches of Krakoa to adhere to his orders -- and that Northstar has expressly refused to keep the Quiet Council informed of Eye-Boy's ever-evolving potential out of fear of them using him for their own causes -- this could set up a future conflict over what Eye-Boy's role on the island should be. While X-Factor and X-Force do work together with the X-Men to confront and capture Magneto, all of these tensions are hard to ignore. Krakoa is already straining under the pressures of the world. Figures on the Quiet Council like Mystique and Mister Sinister already have their own schemes in place that can sew discord on Krakoa, and Magneto's fury over the Council's refusal to revive Wanda could further fracture the governing body.

Onslaught has been revealed in Way of X to be using all the chaos and strife to his advantage, and will likely continue to do so. And now, X-Factor and X-Force are butting heads over how to find justice for a single slain woman. This could just make all of those lingering conflicts all the more damaging. If these problems continue to be exasperated by the trial of Magneto and the further investigation into what truly happened to Wanda Maximoff, then they might be at the forefront of another schism between the mutant community at a time when the fires of Inferno threaten to burn all their recent progress to ash.
